No but he can play as a wide forward. Stay out when the need requires and come in as he did for Harrogate. It gives the team an extra variation.

Whatever the formation I would like Grigg to get another chance. Anyone pumping long balls up to him will go on the naughty step.

I think he's got the intelligence and link up play to play in a fluid front three or whatever as long as we keep it on the deck. He's never had a fair go in terms of game time or playing to his strengths unlike Wyke who gets all the opportunities in the world.

Can't remember but has Parkinson played Grigg up front alongside Wyke?

Its just a suggestion I made given the options to-day, but lots of wingers have moved inside, so why make such a fuss. Also in my system there is no up top, thats the beauty of it, given our choices.

I was wanting to see 2 up front in the hope it would provide a more potent strike force...

Well we had 2 up front, Wyke and O'Brien...

    They were useless...

Do we have two players that can play as potent strikers?

We wont know unless we try something more than any two from Wyke Grigg or Graham which seems to be PP's one variation on a front three which has been tried ad infinitum without being entirely convincing

I thought Wyke was one of our better players today.

Hmm, other than the assist for the penalty, not sure Wyke did much.

Even Danny Collins (who does not like to slag players off) wanted the front 2 changed, from about the 50th minute..

Just checked Roker Report player ratings for Wyke and O'Brien 4 and 3 respectively

Fantastic away performance apparently, he says it around 1min in. No idea what he says after that as I turned it off

Not exactly Quinn and Phillips are they , we have to be realistic though . Wyke is the best of a bad bunch unfortunately as up to present Graham has not shown that he is a better alternative, O’Brien has also been a disappointment as a support striker so I would give Grigg another chance but would have Kimpioka on stand by as an alternative . We have to improve our level of service to our attack as sometimes we could have Messi upfront but without service even he would struggle so Scowen even though wasteful today I would persevere with , the conditions today were poor but three points and we go again on Tuesday-PP take note don’t change to much to soon as the team needs to gel .

how much did the front two contribute today?

from memory, attempts 0 so goals 0...cannot recall a great deal of hold up play either, almost every ball to reach obrien pinged off him to an opposition player...wyke has at least been popping some in the net but we cannot rely on someone placing the ball exactly in time with his run, he fails to judge crosses, fails to turn and shoot and at present we have lads capable of getting good crosses in.

therefore, my thoughts on this 'up front problem' are that trying something new is not going to remove a lot from the team in an attacking sense, which offers scope to try new ideas, changing our central pairing has proven to have a detrimental affect on the team and our defensive record is still good enough, wide men/wingers/wing backs we are quite blessed with at the minute so the only place i see where a BIG improvement can/will be made is 'up front'.

any ideas on those thoughts chaps?...anything i have missed?...am i totally wrong in my views on the players?.

'on the deck' and a 'fluid front three' aren't in parkys coaching manual unfortunately.

Oh aye this is purely a situation for a hypothetical manager, Parky can throw a few surprises into the mix like dropping Power but there are limits to his imagination and playing football on the ground is definitely one of them.
