Many of those countries gave their schools more support in reopening. More staff, hand washing facilities at entrances/on playgrounds, allowed them to use rotas/shorter days etc. Our guidance (which wasn’t brilliant and constantly edited and updated) said it did not want rotas, etc and little money (if any) reaches schools for more staff.
All pubs and restaurants to close. No mixing outside homes. Non essential retail to close. Schools and universities to remain open. Construction parliament and courts to remain open. From Thursday until November 2. Parliament to confirm above by vote on Thursday according to a Government leak.
Anyone thinking schools are well run in Greece and heavily supported is suffering from a misapprehension.
The problem to my mind is that most people generally want to go back to "normal", where normal is exactly how things were in February 2020. And the Government often pander to that widespread desire, pretty understandably. Trouble is, we can't go back to February 2020 - we can either restrict our lives and limit the impact of the virus, or see many more thousands of people die. There aren't any other choices in between, no matter what the Government may wish. A Covid vaccine is ages away and is unlikely to get us back to how we were anyway, in the same way as the flu vaccine doesn't eliminate the flu. There needs to be a restoration of true honesty with people - complying with some tough rules is the only way to control this thing, and not controlling it is a grim future that only the most selfish would contemplate.
Would be nice. Problem is increasing numbers don’t give a **** anymore and that ‘Broken Britain‘ image so many lament about has now become our worst enemy.
The 80:20 rule applies. 80% worry and comply, 20% don't give a **** and won't be told- hence it lingers on. We have a larger rump of 20% folk than other European countries unfortunately,
Have you seen the riots in France, Spain and Italy? It will linger on because it's a virus and viruses linger on. People still get flu and some even die from it, usually older people with underlying health conditions i.e. the same demographic that make up the overwhelming majority of COVID-related deaths. Follow Sweden's libertarian approach by advising the pensioners and people with health conditions to self-isolate and let the rest of society try to continue on with masks and social distancing where appropriate. Stop-start circuit-breakers for a month to slow the spread of infection is ****ing useless, especially with schools remaining open because we'll get a 'third wave', then a 'fourth wave', then a 'fifth wave' and on and ****ing on for years. A vaccine isn't coming anytime soon. Vaccines can take decades to be developed and pass the proper testing regulations.
Indeed. That’s why the government needs renewed honesty and less popularism. Restricting people’s lives can never be popular. Doesn’t mean it’s not necessary though. There is a recovery. South Korea did it after SARS. But it takes a long time and needs most people to play ball. Only honesty will get us there.
I've never understood the panic buying thing , have these people used up all their stockpiles from a few months ago ?
Very few masks seen over here, I'd struggle to find anyone below 60 wearing one on town, even rare among the elderly. I've got my mask ready for my move to the UK tho, feels like an odd time to move
I only know one person who’s had it, which I found about last week. And that person is a family member from darn sarf in Surrey. Still know nobody local who has had it, and that includes acquaintances... not even people I know of. Yet it’s somehow managing to save the world.
1. Why? The supermarkets will be open. 2. There’s too many photos floating around to say if that is this time or earlier in the year. 3. It appears to be scaremongering sensationalism once again from the media.
It also had the backdrop of a world war and civil war in Russia which caused 10s of millions of deaths. Famines, malnourishment, men cramped in trenches and makeshift frontline hospitals and piss-poor sanitary conditions are perfect conditions for viruses to thrive in. Luckily for us, hygiene has improved and there isn't a world war going on.
Did you notice 95% 9f those rioting had face masks on whilst 95% of those at large gatherings in this country don't? Unfortunately Sweden's approach won't work here as attitudes are different and a lot of people here, especially younger ones who have never been told no, think that rules and regulations are something they should be free to ignore and don't give a toss about the wider society.
