2 more goals to reach 1000 premier league goals. We can do it this weekend. COYR I am going for Walcott to get it.
Another 'but for Covid' fixture for me. WBA and Villa are two of my favourite away grounds. One of the last times I was there, for a drab 0-0, I parked in a sort of disused warehouse. The woman on the gate cautioned me that the gates would be locked and not opened until after the final whistle. When I said this was fine, she asked, "Are you sure. love? You are going to be watching the Villa." Great fans who so deserve a decent team. But just not today. I thought we were excellent last weekend, but know that this won't necessarily translate into a win today. But sod it, I'm going to be optimistic for the first time since about 1984. 2-0 Saints. This is my last bout of optimism if we lose, of course. See, I could have been a Villa fan!
Probably a good job fans aren't allowed in stadiums or else you would have had a wasted trip to brum today!
Amateur football yes. PL football - doubt it. They all get tested so no reason to stop it. It's work after all that can't be done from home.
They might get an exception, with the amount of tests they have to do you'd think it is pretty safe. Despite the rising no. of cases in the general population, there still seem to be very few cases in football. Here's hoping anyway!
Villa away was one of my highlights last season. And having never been to the Hawthorns before, I had previously earmarked this season for my first visit.
Villa Park is a great stadium to see a game. I may have mentioned before, but it took a French colleague there a couple of years ago as he’s a big football fan. It was good to see a game not having to worry about the result as it was when Villa were in the championship. Villa v Forest, two European Champions. 5-5. Bests game that Frenchman had ever seen. Couple of years before that I had tickets to The Hawthorns when I had a US colleague announce he was over and would be here for the weekend. I managed to pull a favour with a midlands customer and he got tickets for us in his corporate box... I didn’t go in the box as I wanted to be the away end!! My US colleague couldn’t understand why I turned down fancy food and free drink to have a pie and coffee in the away end. (Virgil’s debut; jeez, he didn’t break sweat)
At the stage in the season where a loss or win can cost or gain you several places. Interesting times
