So with only 1 senior CB you want us to try play 3 at the back? Don’t see why wouldn’t play Williams. Don’t fine since he’s been in team. Only way to know if he’s ready for the Prem is to play him.

Agreed. And it would be asking the players to play a unfamiliar system too

Why is everyone so sure Tiago is going to be available ?
As i've said previously i'd just play Williams and see how he does .
    Allison
    TAA Williams Gomez Robbo
    Henderson Gini
    Shaqiri
    Salah Firmino Mane

Play Bobby instead of Shaqiri and put Jota with front three

yes because like other sides who have a flaming liability (say david luiz) having an extra body on the cover is no harm.

Williams has done ok but the risk is you've a lad who doesn't know al that much is going to get sucked in by forwards into fouls or get done and then there's no cover. The worst of all is someone gets him sent off.

We've seen gomez make silly fouls out side and pick up yellows. It only takes one error and a rash challenge as a CB and off you go.

The lad deserves a bit of cover.

If you watch the game over again he came on and took about 10 mins to settle, he was quite nervous and henderson dropped in beside and then the lad could just knock it about having that handy outball.

build is confidence in other words.

Why would you expose the lad and destroy him potentially? So thats why i've said ask henderson to sit in there deeper than normal when we don't have the ball so the lad can go do what he does. He's a tall lad, go head the ball and let the others cover in behind.

If west ham sit off then having 3 guys stretch out allows us have an outball each side as well.

oh and cos he was pictured back running before the CL so he ought to be back now.

we basically have 4 forwards and they have to be rotated and if we keep playing all 4 later in the season we're ****ed .

Why would you play henderson at Cb a position he doesn’t play which also thrn weakens the midfield meaning West Ham will get through to the defence more often?

Also have you seen TAA play RWB for England? Just takes out all his attacking ability as he’s too far pushed forward so can’t join the play late where he is best.

I assume you’re also then not playing Salah mane firmino as a front 3 so are you dropping One of them and playing 2 central strikers?

given I doubt we’ve ever practised a 532 formation before with that personnel I don’t see it happening

4231 offers protection to the defence anyway

only if the two in midfield have the disciple.

it actually can create more gaps in midfield if not executed well.

it allows you to have 4 if the full back know what they are about. its swings and roundabouts.

if we want to trust williams not to get done we will. if not we will pick a midfielder there

the problem i see with playing , presumably Henderson , a midfielder at CB is that if Tiago is unfit our MF starts to look a bit threadbare particularly as Jones looks a bit out of favour imo .

thiago and matip were not pictured in the open training session last night.

the issue for me is we all know the score with West hams "tackling" in midfield. noble hasn't been playing which removes one slow as hell clogger.

they have been 541 and a big big threat in the air. with Antonio out they will play haller??

I dont think 4231 will work par se as they will be able to close down the 4 up and press the midfield 2 hard as well.

fabinho out means we have no real height do we.

nope which is why i'd play Williams particularly as it is quite likely to play Haller which would mean at set pieces they would have Haller . Soucek & Diop as aerial threats .

No Matip, VVD or Fabinho - literally our three best headers of the ball. We will struggle with aerial battles untill VVD is back so it's; something that we need to adapt to and work around.
