We’d have been better off doing a full lock down until Christmas. I don’t think this tier thing is working.

Don't think that's the solution either.....

It'll be interesting to compare life in Sweden and England now tho when I move next week.

I just look at the numbers at the end of lockdown compared to the beginning. It clearly worked, the number of people dying dropped significantly and the amount of cases went down to an incredibly low number.

If winter makes this worse, what else can we do? We want rid of this thing, we have to take action to get rid of it.

I see it as a "good" short way method of reducing the numbers, basically tampering with the stats.
It badly damages the economic, mental health and postpones next rise of cases.
Based on the mortality rates and damage it does in general I don't think it's viable.

There's plenty of countries worse off than Sweden in regards to COVID numbers and there's never been anything near a lockdown here.

    Like the one in France?
"France's second national lockdown will see bars, restaurants and non-essential businesses close and people banned from travelling to different regions.

Residents can only leave home for essential work, exercise, to go food shopping or for medical reasons, but schools and workplaces will remain open.

People must use official passes to leave their homes, as they had to when March's lockdown was imposed, Mr Macron said."

Schools still open there. Same in Germany.

Unfortunately most people aren't in a job where they get full pay as it is unaffordable. Some are lucky of course...

If it's open yes, but only with members of your bubble - no mixing with other households indoors.

That's how I read it anyway.

Makron has said that attempting herd immunity will result in 400,000 deaths in France... hence this month lockdown...

It won't be long until most of the country is in tier 3 or in other words a England wide lockdown.

What does Tier 2 mean for people?

    • People must not meet with anybody outside their household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place
    • People must not meet in a group of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other space
    • People should aim to reduce the number of journeys they make where possible. If they need to travel, they should walk or cycle where possible, or plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport.

Unless you close schools and universities then any so-called Lockdown measures ain't gonna work.

Enough adults will obey any restrictions to ensure R≤1, but children (and I include University students in this) are incapable of socially distancing.

I honestly can't see the point of closing pubs, gyms, non-essential shops and so on if you are going to leave educational establishments open.

Any gains you make with Lockdown measures will be immediately offset by transmissions in schools.

The North East has been in Tier 2 for a couple of months or so.

Generally, folk are obeying the Must and ignoring the Should.

Here in Wales we are on full lockdown. Only supermarkets open plus chemists and takeaway places.

There are more cars on the road than normal. Seems when you tell people they can't - they do! It's the way of the world these days

Oh the schools will stay open, apparently teachers and other adults in education are immune so that’s not a problem.

But the rest of the country should be shut until Christmas. Unless of course, the government wants to just admit that they’re more concerned about money than actual human lives. Then they should just carry on as they are.

Not learned from last time, have we? Pratting about waiting to see how bad it gets before implementing the thing we should have done a month prior.

Actually infection rates in Hull Uni is very low, and although there are lots of cases in schools there doesn’t seem to be wide spread in this area compared to others.
Seems counter intuitive, and might change as rates in general increase, but currently that’s the case round these ere parts.
