President was gone in next election anyway. Xavi will come in as manager end of the season and no doubt messi will sign a new contract.
The last thing he did was to cast Barcelona’s vote in favour of a Euro Super league. 18 teams including 5 English with no relegation. To secure the financial future of Barcelona and other big clubs.
I think if anyone thinks (not saying you btw SS) that their club would not jump at the idea of forming a league where their short term financial position is massively benefitted they are living in a dreamworld (see every club who voted in favour of the PL) This is just the natural evolution to that decision. The five English clubs who are invited will look to find a way to play in both regardless of effects on the players. I think whoever came in at Barca would do the same. There are cockwombles who believe that their club would take some sort of high moral ground stance and refuse entry if they were to be offered such a place at the top table Forest Green could go berzerk with moral indignation safe in The knowledge they are not likely to be made the same offer - however if the offer was made we all know what would happen. Of course they would not refuse and the fans, as they will with our club - either stop watching or continue to watch I think a revamp of the CL is now almost inevitable But one can hope Sad times - I think
3 games in 9 days between 31 Oct and 8 Nov. International break. 12 games in 43 days between 21 Nov and 2 Jan.
Completely agree with the points about all clubs jumping at it and those not invited adopting the moral high ground. Same as all those relegation threatened teams piously proclaiming last season should have been voided. As a fan though, I'm totally against it, no matter who is in it. The idea of a league without relegation and promotion is just horrible. I don't follow American sports, but am I right in thinking this is analogous to the league structure in their popular sports? No aim other than to make as much money as possible from it. It's been coming for a long time, but greed has eventually made a Frankenstein's Monster of football.
Carra made this point. Whether you agree or not as fans, clubs look out for themselves. People bad mouthing too clubs for that now but the bottom 6 weren’t doing what’s beat for the prem when they wanted to null and void. Same being made about the EFL bailout money. Clubs moaning that other clubs are gonna go bust... but a few months ago Wigan went bust and clubs were lining up to pick off their best players and academy players on the cheap.
Yep on this I think I totally agree At least I think I do European Super League in place of CL with no route in or out just won’t interest me It’s not that I won’t still support Liverpool but it will become a product I just view from a distance (ironically how I do with the NFL) I also think it will negate the league product as the race for CL is usually entertaining (even though I disagree with it lol ) Obviously I can’t really guarantee how I will view it until it happens and the details are in but I do firmly believe this is the start of the end for me bit like Doctor Who - I knew when they changed the show runner to Chris Chibnall it would be the end lmao
This ‘the bottom 6 wanted null and void so **** ‘em’ narrative is bollocks imo. As far as I remember those clubs weren’t all shouting for null and void, they were saying - rightly imo - that they shouldn’t be relegated on a PPG basis. As it was, Villa stayed up, and they’d have been relegated on PPG. Liverpool were always going to get the title awarded whatever happened, and clubs protesting against being unfairly relegated was perfectly fair imo. The Barca president saying he’d have backed a ESL was merely his parting shot. Saying he’d have joined an imaginary league about sums up his tenure tbh.
Karen Brady was out calling for null and void. The bottom 6 didn’t want the season to finish under any means because they wanted to avoid relegation if they could.
Karen Brady isn’t the entire bottom 6, the rest said they wouldn’t vote for PPG and who can blame them? It’s completely churlish to suggest that any club in that position would have voted any other way.
Rubbish. At the time a lot were saying they can’t complete the season so no one should get relegated. It was first said it was for the health of everyone and when that was put to one side it was because They didn’t wanna play at neutral venues then when that was put One side it was that would be unfair to play your home games with no fans when in the opposite fixture they had fans etc... lots of teams were in it for themselves. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just don’t then be hypocritical when the teams at the top want to look after themselves.
Absolute bollocks, there was never even a vote on how to end the season if it couldn’t be played out, as the intention was to always play it out if at all possible. When that looked doubtful at one point PPG was being talked about and clubs were talking about how unfair that’d be for those who faced relegation as a result. Trying to argue the narrative that because some clubs argued that point as a reason for the top 6 to do as they like without any thought for the rest in the future is utterly bogus. The top 6 will do as they like anyway so it’s moot, but the ‘they deserve it’ angle is horse ****.
