Yeah. We should let people do exactly what they like to our country and in our name and anyway we have a ruling elite so why should we be allowed to challenge them? We should be very grateful for people like Johnson.

Not entirely sure why it should be closed. I have never been on it and have no wish to go on it but it does have a big on impact on football. Especially in the current climate of a global pandemic so would make sense for people to discuss it somewhere. I come here to discuss the saints and am glad politics (something that can easily become heated) is left on another thread. Just posting this has taken up precious time which could have been well spent looking over the match report against everton... again.

I don`t see the problem with it - if someone isn`t interested, then don`t bother looking at it.

My concern about the politics thread is that it does make us all look a little left wing, although I accept it would not change too much if the Labour Party was in we would then all seem to be right wing with our complaining. Having said that This is a football Forum and not a general conversation forum. As an ex mod I can confirm the politics thread does seem to cause the most concern or did in my day.
However on the balance of things as long as the mods can cope and people listen to them which on this forum is generally good then I can see little harm.
I have to say I rarely visit the thread these days. As others have said it is your choice wether you read it and join in.

First of all, I’m sorry to hear you are an ex-moderator if the rumour is true

But to the point. There is a naïveté about this kind of forum. It assumes that a football forum will only feature stuff on football. I have been on WhatsApp groups that make the same assumption. Eventually people start posting other vaguely related stuff. So the response has been a politics thread, a music thread and an ‘off topic’ thread. But at the same time, from what I’ve seen, people discuss: the merits of local pubs and eateries; swap recipes; give health and fitness advice. Should these have separate threads?

If the idea is that this is like a virtual pub where those of us sadly afflicted with Saints disease come to chat then maybe we should simply allow what may appear to be off topic discussion with a nudge from moderators to bring it back to the subject in hand.

The only rule should be not to allow offensive material. Defined as? That’s the one to resolve

I hope, Chico, you and your fellow mods who tackle this thankless task can see the way through. I realise it’s not easy and I’ve said on the politics thread the current climate isn’t very conducive to calm rational debate at times.

Alongside freedom of speech comes responsibility and accountability for lies, deceit and misleading articles from whatever side of the spectrum. That includes all forms of media, government and opposition, institutions and individuals. There are publications and social media platforms with particularly bad track records.

Does this mean that the food bank thread which is doing so much good should be closed as it is political or perhaps the thread to have people back in stadia.

Shutting down debate is the sign of narrow mindedness.

Anyone or any group or media outlet expressing views opposed to the right wing view of the world will always be threatened with closure.. That is why Johnson is constantly threatening the BBC and Trump constantly talks about fake news. They only want their view of the world heard. If the politics thread had been full of right wing posters there would not have been a call for its closure.

The right wing had no defence against the left wing views expressed on the politics thread so they simply buggered off.

Who the **** can put up a logical defence for the actions of Johnson, Gove, Rees-Mogg, Farage and Cummins?

Hi NS, yes I have resigned after nigh on 10 years doing the job.
Back on topic........ in truth most threads do have other subjects which is as you say is like kinda being in a pub having an odd pint or two and discussing things of the day with Saints the main subject line. Mind you when Not 606 was borne, The owner did make it plain he wanted this to be a football Forum. As you probably know he added other sports as we expanded on separate forums. People complained is my understanding as they asked for a general chat Forum. Which he duly did and he called it The General chat Forum. However although I have not been on it for years as it seemed to me a moaners paradise. Have no idea what it's like now.

I initially came on this forum despite being a Norwich supporter because of the high level of debate. I don't think that level has fallen significantly. I am willing to accept the allegation of confirmation bias because most of the posters take a similar line on politics to me on here.

If you want to see an alternative example look at British Politics on GC. There is a genuine nastiness on there at times. Anyway I see the result of the closure vote is 32/7 against.

I`ve always found the politics thread to have lots of good, balanced information and opinion in it (generally). I think there is a perception of left wing bias because conservatives are often too embarrassed to own up to it, and thus participate.

Even less likely to put up a logical argument with links to verifiable sources.

No I don't think it is because they are too frightened. They get cornered and picked on because they have an opposing view and on this Forum you have to admit they are in a minority. They just don't think it worth arguing..........
