Good Morning. It's Tuesday 27th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    How good is Bamford?

When I heard in the Summer that Patrick Bamford would start the season leading the line at Leeds Utd, I must admit my heart sank. I envisaged a long hard season teetering on the edge of the drop zone and had nightmares about glaring mistakes, miscues and madness seeping into the squad.

Six games in, I can't tell you how delighted I am that I was wrong, but what has happened to the 27yo Choir boy for this amazing transformation.

Could this be Bamford's honeymoon period, with his rich vein of form dropping off at some point?

Others are suggesting that the style of play in the Premiership very much suits Bamfords game!

Perhaps Bielsa has unlocked Bamfords potential, and he's about to become a 25 goal machine?

If a team were to offer you 20m for Bamford now (and we were still in the middle of the transfer window), would you accept it?

Who would you say Leeds most underrated player is?

Whelan attacks Agbonlahor comments regarding Bielsa

Former Leeds striker, now pundit Noel Whelen has hit back at claims from Gabby Agbonlahor that Marcelo Bielsa is nothing more than a myth.

The former Villa legend spoke prior to Leeds 3-0 assassination of the Claret and Blue on Friday night, and backed up his claim yesterday on TalkSport:-

“I don’t see clubs like Manchester City or Manchester United, when they win a game, the talk is about a pundit who says that their manager is a myth.

“You’ve got to expect that. You’re in a big league now, the Premier League, you’re going to get pundits who are going to try and wind up Leeds and put them off their game.”

Following these remarks, Noel Whelan has jumped in with some choice words for the 34yo former Villan:-

“You’ve got Gabby Agbonlahor coming out and saying it’s a myth, Bielsa’s a myth.

"Well I wouldn’t be thinking that now when he’s seen his team get absolutely battered, not knowing which way to look or turn because everywhere they looked, Leeds players were at them.

“What Bielsa has done to the club in the space of two and a bit seasons is legendary status, he’s got that already at Leeds United.

"I think Gabby Agbonlahor is the only ex-football player that doesn’t believe in what Marcelo Bielsa’s been doing.

“I don’t know what room he’s been sitting in without a TV but he needs to have a look at that game, maybe he should watch the 90 minutes again and come back and give us another quote.”

Club and players get behind Rashford's free school meals during holidays campaign

Leeds United will match the £25,000 donation pledged by Leeds Utd players towards Marcus Rashford's campaign for free school meals during holidays.

It comes after a Labour bid to extend free school meals was rejected by MPs after the government said it had already introduced more effective measures to support families.

Leeds City Council announced its "Healthy Holidays" programme - to provide free activities and meals to vulnerable children in the city - on Friday, following Rashford's increased efforts.

    Cooper commented:

"Let's do this Leeds! No children should ever go hungry. £25k guaranteed from the lufc squad. We stand with you Marcus Rashford," "Me and the players are really fortunate and we are in a position to help.

"Therefore we are delighted to support the campaign from Leeds City Council, inspired by Marcus. No kids should go to bed hungry.

    Morning all...

Bamford deserves every bit of praise at the moment but he’ll hit a drought, he is very much a confidence player, he allows the fans to get to him when it gets tough. Having no fans is a blessing for his game at the moment.

School meals, I’m not sure where I stand on it, why is it anyone other than the parents responsibility to feed their kids? If the parent is genuinely struggling I have every sympathy but by genuinely struggling I mean they don’t have the latest phone on a £35 a month contract, they don’t insist on £100 pair of trainers and sit playing their game console all day smoking fags.

I grew up on a council estate, it was common for many young couples to knock out a kid at 17/18 in order to get hand outs and a council house and that memory and culture has stuck with me, I have seen too many families started by youngsters playing the system.

If a kid is going hungry then I hope social services are visiting the parents, I hope they’re checking up why the parent feels it is acceptable to send their kid to school without any food. Maybe child benefit should be changed, give kids clothing vouchers and put the money towards school canteens that are able to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner instead.

The only thing that has changed with Bamford is that he is now putting away chances. This is the reason why it seemed everyone was on his back the last season or so. The missed chances were costing us easy victories and we were desperate to get out of that league.

He is currently putting chances away and receiving all the plaudits that come with it. Long may it continue.

I'd sell him for 20 million yes. We'd probably get more for him at the moment though.

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

The media love building a player up and then knocking them down. Hopefully Paddy knows he is in a honeymoon period but his next game firing blanks will see them turn on him. Lets be honest Paddy has scored 6 in 6 and thats world class at this level but when you do the analysis you still see where he fails as a goalscorer. Last season he was well down the scoring league and had a very poor % of chances converted which was 34% compared to Mitrovic at 55% and Watkins at 52% we also must remember that Bamford gets way more chances than anyone and you wonder what Watkins or Mitrovic would do under Bielsa tactics. Right now Bamford is only at 30% conversion rate which is poor.

Paddy however is our first line of defence and does things for the team no other striker an do, so maybe the stats boys can come up with a formula that reflects overall contribution to the team?

Not going to comment on the school meal debate as its a media driven conflated attack on Boris and when sports journalists turn into attack dogs for the left they lose me. That means you Phil Hay and Graham Smyth

Re: Bamford. It's always been about what else he brings to the team, not just number of goals. Ideally we'd have a player who does what he does AND converts more chances but does that player exist at a price we can afford ? Is it just the keyboard warriors that get on his case when all they see is goals scored tally ? Certainly whenever I saw Leeds last season (for context, I went to 6 games at Elland Road and the cup game at Arsenal), the crowd were unwavering in their support for Bamford.

Agbonlahor must be on the wacky baccy the sore loser.
Im happy for Paddy long may his good form continue but this is a team effort and individually will make mistakes Paddys are highlighted more because hes the main striker, but when he misses **** me does he miss.
If kids are going to school starving maybe the authorities should take the family allowance from the parents and make sure they are fed, saying that, Schools are for learning not feeding.....or indoctrination.

I don't subscribe to extremism on either wing left or right so I would probably class myself as a moderate but I like to think I have more of a social conscience than a Tory for example. That doesn't mean I agree with moochers or spongers in any form but there are plenty of people out there that do need help and unfortunately there are loads that will exploit this. On the other hand there are a multitude of Corporate corrupt entities who also exploit any loophole that allows them to avoid paying taxes which means publicly funded organisations such as the NHS become harder to fund. So it's all a case of balance. Yes I do want money to spend and will pay my taxes that contribute to the greater good so those less well off are able to survive but I don't want to pay more than my share. I also hate social injustice and agree with the sentiments of BLM/racism of any form but the kneeling thing is in my opinion devaluing that movement as it is now just a thing that has to be done before every game - time to stop it I think.

Anyway I reckon John Cleese has got it right in this:

Having said that, if we can afford a ferry service with a welcome committe on the south coast a 4star hotel with 3 meals a day and 40 quid spending money for illegals im sure we could give the kids a slice of dripping and bread before their first lesson on how bad whitey is:emoticon-0105-wink:

The Bamford problem wasn't just Bamfords problem. It was a team problem. Bamford rightly took the stick as he was the tip of the attack and he should have been by far our best goalscorer. Harrison, Costa, Klich, Forshaw, Cooper, Roberts were all to blame for numerous missed chances. That kind of highlighted Bamfords continuous misses as others were not taking the pressure off.

This season Harrison, Costa, Klich have all contributed goals and Bamford has also hit the ground running. Hopefully it continues.

Realistically it should be harder to score in this league so I expect it to dry up somewhat. Hopefully the new signings can come in and add to the goals and we can squeeze another season out of Hernandez.

I still don't see Bamford as a natural goalscorer. Others will need to contribute as the season progresses. Bamford will return to missing chances but hopefully he can ride this wave a bit longer.

    Good morning.

Unfortunately I think it will only take a game or two of not scoring for some fans to get in Bamford’s back again. Everyone said we’d have to be more clinical this year because we wouldn’t get many chances. It turns out we’re still getting plenty of chances.

Whoever’s fault it is that the kids aren’t getting fed it’s not the child’s so I do ‘t begrudge the free school dinner. It’s the one time you know exactly where the money is going.

I have a feeling though that those hit hardest by the pandemic are those who were in full time work before and paying their own mortgage, rent etc but are now only getting a percentage of their usual wage or hours. They aren’t likely to be the ones who qualified for free school meals anyway.

Any of you older lads will remember dear old Frank Bough who we grew up with, he was the bloke who presented our sports to a real mass audience. He took over from David Coleman on Grandstand and took it to another level and was the start of the well informed commentator and big sheepskin coats. He was there for the start of Eddie Waring, Bill Baumont Saint and Greavsie, Brian Johnstone, Dickie Davies and Motson Top bloke and a sad day yesterday and hardly mentioned on the BBC because he was White and straight shame how the BBC has turned out when you need to have lefty views on refugees, race and gender to get a job.... anyone else not even known that the 6 Nations has been going on thanks to the BBC losing that as well as every major sporting event except Wimbledon, just so Lineker can get a huge salary

I’m not sure he’s the best example of that given his well documented preference for dressing up as a woman for his sex parties. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I'm old enough to remember him presenting Grandstand on Saturdays and Nationwide amongst other things. A great presenter and an icon of my youth.

Didn't watch much TV yesterday but the BBC morning show was on in the background while I was working and they did a bit of a tribute.
