Sunderland travel to the Crown Oil Arena to face Rochdale in the Skybet League One. Last time out Sunderland lost to Portsmouth and Rochdale beat Shrewsbury. Sunderland drop to 6th place in League One after their first defeat of the season. Tom Flanagan and Dion Sanderson have trained this week and could be in contention to replace the suspended Luke O’Nien in defence. Elliot Embleton featured in our Under-23s’ win over Fulham on Monday afternoon as he works his way back into the first-team fold, but remains unavailable for Tuesday’s game following a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Black Cats will be looking to bounce back with an improved performance on the road. Rochdale sit in 15th position on 10 points, they lost their last home game 3-0 to Hull but have won their last two away games since then. Jake Beesley was forced off with a head injury on Saturday and he will be assessed ahead of Tuesday’s game against Sunderland. Former Black Cat Paul McShane is recovering from an injury and unlikely to be in the squad. Phil Parkinson: “Disappointed with the first half hour, I thought we invited pressure, too many square passes. We didn’t make good enough decisions on the ball and got punished for that. Second half we started the game well, had a really good period in the game, we chased the game towards the end with the substitutions, Luke’s got sent off and the third goal obviously finishes the game. ” “You are going to get setbacks throughout the season and this was one today, but it’s how you respond. We will pick ourselves up and go again. We have got to look at the game, my feeling is that we gave ourselves our own problems which is frustrating because we knew how Portsmouth were going to set up and we didn’t adapt.” Brian Barry-Murphy: “The shape of our squad is obviously very small, but looking at our team today we had Gavin Bazunu – 18, Haydon Roberts – 18, Tolaji Bola – 21, Aaron Morley we think is almost 30, 31, but he’s actually 20” “So, we’re a very young team, but then we have the golden oldies in the likes of Jim McNulty and Paul McShane. I thought it was going to be a hard game for us coming to one of the bigger hitters in League One in terms of finances. To show as much courage and aggression that we did throughout the game was very exciting for me.” “He’s (Beesley) had stitches for quite a severe cut on his forehead so we’ll have to see how he is for Tuesday night. He had some heavy bangs but his commitment to stay on the pitch and almost be forced off at the last moment was testament to his character and the work that he’s doing.” Prutton predicts: meh Match Appointments: Referee: James Bell Assistant Referees: Anthony Moore and Hristo Karaivanov Fourth Official: Darren Drysdale Team Line ups Sunderland: Burge, McLaughlan, Willis, Wright, Flanagan, Hume, Dobson, Leadbitter, Scowen, Graham, Wyke. Subs: Matthews, Sanderson, Power, Diamond, Maguire, Gooch, Grigg Injured: McGeady, Feeney, Xhemajli Doubtful: Embleton Suspended: O’Nien Rochdale: Bazunu, Keohane, Roberts, O'Connell, Bola, Newby, Ryan, Morley, Lund, Rathbone, Beesley. Subs: McLaughlin, McNulty, Done, Tavares, Hopper, Brierley, Chalton Injured: Humphrys, Baah, McShane Betting Odds: Home 19/4 Away 1/2 Draw 16/5 My two pence: After a poor display against Pompey, let’s hope that Parky learns his lesson and starts to freshen up the side when it needs it. Surely this must be the chance to make a few changes and give the squad a bit of a makeover and get back on track. I’m going for a 2-1 away win. Embleton, Neil & Kimpioka starting for the U23s today - probably confirms that they won't be involved tomorrow night. please log in to view this image
Another League One match has been suspended after players test positive for coronavirus, as midweek football draws closer. It comes off the back of two games from the third tier of English football being postponed at the weekend, causing more worries if the season would be able finish. Tuesday night’s Sky Bet League One fixture between Swindon Town and Accrington Stanley has been suspended, they both have a big number of staff and players out. Is it wise to travel to a Tier 3 area to kick a ball about?
So Kimpioka won't ever get a game under Parky then he will be away in January now, not happy about that 3 at the back is no good now, after saturdays howlers, get back to 4-4-2.
Great thread as usual mate. There's enough talent in that squad to beat any team in the league. Caution failed with Ross, frustrated the team and supporters, and it gives the opposition more hope than they should have. We have to take the game by the scruff of the neck, throw it up in the air and toy with it for a while before we kill it. We are the Black Cats, let's show our claws.
Cheers RTB for both posts I have to confess despair starting to settle in... even if we could go to games I doubt I would be arsed... i never thought I would say that Now if we go and say score 6 goals tomorrow night I will be ecstatic... Is it likely?
Well the U23s are showing the way - they were 3-1 down and are now winning 5-3 Kimpioka with another 2 goals
Yet, despite the hopelessness and lack of pace with Wyke, Graham, Grigg and O'Brien...Kimpioka does not get a game!
Parky likely to do a presser this evening right? He did Monday evening before last weeks Tuesday game. will be interesting to see which of Power, Leadbitter, Dobson and Scowen have “a niggle”.
Cracking thread as usual. Looking for a bounce back performance and an away win. Will be close though. 2-1 win.
