Morning all. I think that this Leeds squad is the best we have had since the days of Don Revie and is getting stronger. At the rate Meslier is progressing he could be the best goalkeeper we have ever had.

Cautiously optimistic is how I feel, I think talk of European football is a little premature atm, it's only 6 games in, only 6 points separate the top 15 sides. I still think Liverpool will win it, ok they'll miss vvd but they have a strong squad and seem to have luck on their side. Fine margins in the game, we could have 2 more points and be unbeaten if Rodrigo hadn't given the soft penalty away, and Phillips unlucky deflection hadn't gone in but we could also be 3 points worse off, if it weren't for Ayling's wonderful goal line clearance on Friday , 1 down and it's a different game. At the start of the season I thought 10-12th was achievable now I'm thinking 8th- 10th. Anything around that is brilliant, anything above that would be sensational. 15 games in then we'll have a clearer picture.

Having an interesting convo with a Leicester fan and as he points out they have sold Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Maguire & Chilwell for well over £200+ million...They have then recruited better for less and so keep progressing as a club.

    £40 million for Drinkwater FFS.

So the question is...what about us ?

Do we take the big bucks when certain clubs come calling and then re-invest to upgrade the squad ?

Goalkeepers have been going £80 million, so how much will Meslier be worth soon for example ?

Difficult decision, personally to progress and be considered a challenger we need to add 4/5 more quality signings to what we already have, before we consider selling, the only way I'd sell atm is if a player doesn't want to be here, for example one of the new boys struggles to settle. Every player has a price though, for example we're offered £60m for Phillips and could get 3 quality signings from abroad for that, then it need consideration

I am glad to see you have shed the scum avatar but whilst your replacement is somewhat amusing having Grimly Fiendish's smug face is not much better TBH. apart from that I believe you talk good sense. :1980_boogie_down:

I think bielsa has shown that if we miss players we can adapt, therefore if we did sell a player for over the odds we could handle that gap within the squad and use the proceeds to strengthen the squad as a whole.

thats where we’re at now - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, improvements will be incremental... replace a good player with a very good player. Continuity and adherence to the system is everything... the play stays the same, there’s just a gradual notch up in performance.

With all this video tech, when are they going to retrospectively sanction players for diving (other than sending off incidents)... or use VAR to book them during the match.

Grealish clearly kicks his leg out sideways to ‘draw the foul’ from struijk. Then dives for the costa incident.

Leicester have done it superbly, in that they have sold from a position of strength and when they feel the offer has been too good to resist. They didn't give in to player power for example when Mahrez wanted to leave and they made scum dig deep to get Maguire.

As fans we never want any of our good players to leave....however I'd accept anyone leaving for £60+ million.

For some reason though we as club have never maximised our assets and always sell way too cheap.

it’s circumstances- you sell cheap if you have to. Hopefully we don’t need to now. We turned down very good money for kp last summer, I imagine it would take silly £ for us to release any valued assets

As I said though, whoever goes is just a cog in the machine and replaceable

Totally agree on the leg thrusting/dangling into an opponent...needs some clear guidelines that this will result in a foul and a yellow card.

My other bugbear is the so called tactical foul, especially a trip or scythe down when the ball is not within playing distance. Should be a red card for endangering an opponent...a pull back, then ok a yellow but anything worse and you're off.

Still hurting from the Cantona sale I'm afraid.

We were league champions FFS and he was scoring goals for fun... don't care about any of the off the pitch stuff, it was just a shocking decision and set us back while strengthening our direct opponent for peanuts.

As I said a pull back/hand on the shoulder then fair enough...it's the slide in from behind or side when the ball is nowhere to be won that should be straight reds.

Plus, seriously I don't think it's something we do...maybe I'm just not seeing it ?

It’s not how much you have to spend, it’s how you spend it eg imo Robin Koch at £13m is a far better player than £85m Maguire.

Sell to the UK market and buy from overseas seems to be the answer.

Leicester do come from a good place because they have a billionaire benefactor but refuse to splosh stupid money. They sell for best price and improve for less because they have a good scouting network. They can refuse to sell cheaply because of the financial clout but improve year on year sensibly. Hats off to anyone who can get £40m for Drinkwater
