We must have been watching a different game because after they scored Peterborough couldn't get out of their own half, we forced a decent save, hit the post and had a couple more half chances, they hit us on the counter after a defensive lapse and get a massive deflection on only their second shot of the game. Agree we should have played more to feet today but I'm sure the conditions didn't help. I don't think we have the right manager in place and his inability to recognise when changes are needed during the game is frustrating but I think on the balance of play we beat most teams in this league playing like we did today and on another day would have walked away comfortable winners.
Don't agree Peterborough deserved the result, deflected shot won them it but our failings in front of goal let us down. Hitting the post at one end then deflected shot at the other. Agree we were better first half and thought we deserved to be more than one up. Second not ha s good but had a great spell but failed to take chances. I suppose everybody sees it different
You might want to tell their commentators that because they were laughing at full time, they couldn't believe they got the result.
You seem to have an issue with the fact I've done my badges and are involved in the game, I was asked a question about my football education and answered it... Feel free to explain to me how that makes me an expert? But for me today it wasn't about having to make a change to change the game, we had the chances to win comfortably but didn't take them, we opened them up on a number of occasions and all that lacked was individuals taking there chances. At the other end we made 2 individual errors in their second goal, elder getting some on half way and greeves's lack of experience at the back showing and letting his man drift Infront of him. We by no stretch played bad today. We just didn't take our chances which if we did would have ment we still won 3/4/5 - 2. We could have changed system and players could/would have still missed the chances, that's what cost us today, not a lack of system change.
Although the first half lacked chances I was thinking just how well organised we looked and how we were moving the ball so much better than end of last season (not difficult). And ultimately I felt we were unlucky to lose with the deflected goal and a bit unlucky in front of goal. But I still have no confidence in our manager's ability to read a game and his body language continues to be underwhelming!
Having watched the 2nd half and as the away team they did what was required and hit us on the break and win the game.
I'm 99% sure if we had been away at their place, done exactly the same and won 2-1 but they missed a boat load of chances and our second goal come from of their players errors. The usual suspects on here would have been saying we where lucky, they outplayed us, just didn't take their chances, we aren't good enough at the back as they had 13 shots etc etc etc....
Can't argue with that, however, they created very little, got lucky with what little they did create and rode their luck at the other end. They could have played the exact same and come away with a 3-1 defeat, nobody would have been praising their tactics then.
As SB would say, you are only as good as your strikers... it seems that the number of chances we create with an investment in the last window we would be converting more... I can't really comment, relying on your posts and observations here, but I think we all know from an apparent excellent first half display there a team in there, where it is let down is the help from the sidelines and as ST said, with Adkins (or anyone with any nous) in charge we'd have seen that out today...
If Elder had been on song their 2nd wouldn't have happened. He hasn't been great all season, I think he should be rested, give Fleming a go, he might turn out to be another Greaves.
Interesting how we can all watch the same game and have a different opinion about Magennis Personally I'd like somebody with more mobility than an oil tanker in that position
For me it's all about what he's being asked to do, of its to be the target and then use that to bring others Into play, then he's doing his job and we get goals like today from it ( I personally think that's what he's been asked to do ) but if we want to play a fast paced ball to feet game then he's not the right man for that job at all
that's the spirit, a few beers for me but differently not the same, gutted to say the least. Ruins Saturday night but need a win Tuesday now. It's a long season and hopefully we will get back on track.
We managed 3 shots on target versus Peterborough having 2 shots on target. There were changes McCann could have made to put us on the front foot. Peterborough changed shape in the second half to have a positive impact, what did we do?
We were creating throughout. 13 shots to 5 shows it was finishing not how we set up that was the issue today. Why change it if we're creating and risk being less effective?
