Not in Paris you won't Dave. I spent nearly 80 Euros on just 2 of us when I was in France in Sept. The prices have gone up a lot.

The Tory argument on children's meals is that government provided an extra £9 billion to councils across the country to address the issue. The reason they did it this way is that there are children in need, that don't currently get free school meals who would otherwise fall outside the payment. Reasons for this appear to include families that see free school meals as a stigma and so won't engage. Councils know who these families are and can ensure the money goes to the right places.

The question I haven't been able to find an answer to, is why the government didn't just renew the scheme that applied over the summer, for half term and Christmas, and let councils deal with those in need that fall outside this. Hopefully all will become clear in due course

There is a certain stigma that comes with the fee schools meal tag, I understand that perfectly well. This has been a major **** up by the government and one that wont be forgotten anytime soon. This country seems to get more divided by the day. That's not a good thing. MPs get subsidised meals paid at our expense yet vote down to subsidise those who cant afford it? What is wrong with these people? Let's subsidise those who can afford to eat but not those who cant? Is that logical in anyones book? I would love to know.

What a load of tosh! The country has actually been more united. You only said yesterday:

Yeah, outing themselves as awful ****s even to people who don’t notice or care about anything politicians do 99% of the time is probably all part of the master plan.

More united because your party made an ideological decision to risk the most vulnerable children in the country starving. What a win.

I think it comes down to whether the government has provided sufficient funds in the £9 billion in extra benefits to councils. I just don't know, but I'm sure this will come out when the number crunchers get to work. And as I say, I don't understand why the summer out of school arrangement wasn't replicated for the Christmas hols, and deal with others in need separately. There must be a reason. I hope this comes out

Or do what I do give up my free time over the last 20 years to help out kids that come from poor families or are having problems in life. Too many people live the life of luxury and just moan from the sidelines.

It's no good trying to explain Goldie. It's the nasty government starving the kids mentality.

No, I have said a dozen times that school meals should always be free. The Government gave out a sum of money which they believed was enough to help poor families. Somewhere along the line something has gone wrong and they are now in a bit of a pickle. They will u-turn and give the meals to the kids. I just don't need to go down the route of others on here.

Like I say, I/we know your stance.
United against such an unreasonable, uncaring, vile, greedy government who would rather feed themselves despite their wealth over kids who cant afford to eat. That labour mp was right....pure scum.

I'm glad to see some on here have values and morals. Full credit to you. I have just personally donated £250 to our local school who are running a scheme for their pupils and nearby schools to feed the kids over this period.
