At first I had no clue what you were on about, because Waterstones has been there well over 10 years... Honestly I don't think I've never noticed this shop before.
Shame that, they're a bit more premium that a lot of the other retailers in the city centre, though it was always a bit of an odd site for them.
The brick by brick removal and rebuild of the Earl De Grey starts this week... please log in to view this image
because it’s very very expensive, this is only happening as they are widening the road. In any other circumstances it’s unviable, just too expensive
Any ideas why the Earl De Grey was singled out for special treatment? Lots of old pubs have closed and left without a trace. I know it was infamous for its clientele etc. but I'm puzzled as to why they are going to all this trouble in this case
It's Grade 2 listed and I think they got Wykeland to cover the cost, as a condition of their planning permission for the new hotel.
When they say they're moving it brick by brick, I suspect that's a bit of an exaggeration, I assume they'll actually just remove and save all the green ceramic stuff (and the internals/bar etc), the rest of it's rendered and it would be rather pointless saving all the bricks (the hoarding has now been removed)... please log in to view this image
They do some odd things to keep 'in character'. Anyone else notice they made the side of Bonus Arena look boarded up? https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.7...=241.2131&pitch=0&thumbfov=100!7i13312!8i6656
Just a query. Mz Kempton and her lovely Mam are trying to remember where they went for a meal on Prince's avenue one night. I think it was owned by one of the chaps from The Housemartins or The Beautiful South. I remember he hired a well respected chef from London. I'm thinking it might have been the building that became Union Mash or something? Any clue?
I was getting my car MOT'd last week, great place incidentally just down St Georges Road.... had an hour to kill... there are some fabulous buildings on Hessle Road, was the one near the roundabout with the circular window a church or mission or such...?. A shame the glass has been smashed....
