Didn't see it, but from what I heard we dominated but didn't put the ball in the back of the net? Well I'm happy to win boring if it gets us promoted this season. Defence seems rock solid, no matter who we play there, which is a good sign. Build from the back, get a goal scorer in Jan (or hopefully kimpi can step up once he's fit) and we should be OK.
One sided game that header over the top in the 2nd half is the biggest miss in the history of football i tell you how did he not score ! but an amazing run in defence our best in our history at the minute, but Pompey coming here, and we will need a couple of goals to beat them, i think Parky has blew without bringing a striker in AGAIN, but lets hope not so in comes Benji eventually.
It was a bit of a freak occurrence that we only scored one, Wright somehow headed it into the ground and over the bar from a metre away from goal and Gooch managed to hit it straight into the keepers face from a similar distance. Lots of shots put wide or over from good positions. Certainly beats struggling to create any chances, on another day we'd have won 4-0. Crewe were pretty good a little bit toothless but fast and direct, best I've seen against us this season.
Don't think you can put it down to Parky's style, personally. His tactics resulted in us having over 20 shots on goal in this game... Short of pulling the number 9 shirt on himself there's not much more he can do. Hopefully it will eventually click for ONE of our strikers this season. If/when it does we will be really flying imo.
They're not worth their own thread but I was really pleased that Wycombe lost again, that's every game this season. They're a disgrace to football and their manager is a joke. I hope we pass them at the end of the season.
I suspect a back 3, 2 wing backs and 2 defensive midfielders makes us unlikely to give many goals away, which imho is great. We are creating chances.. we have a big lump striker as a target man (unless there us a absolutely massive change in ability/form) who is unlikely to score. The attacking midfielders, Maguire is a likely scorer maybe up to 10 a season, Gooch, a wingback atm, may also score a few goals. Our problem is a 20 goals a season player. Wyke, Graham, Griggs and O'Brien are not goal scorers... so why the fcuk do we have 4 of them!!!! Donald is awol, so I presume recruitment is down to Parky and the CEO...
But they've all proved, elsewhere, they can get goals. We created chance after chance last night and should have had at least another 3 goals. Can't blame Parky for players missing chances like that. Keep creating them and sooner or later they'll go in. At least one of the four you mention has to get some kind of form soon. One bright spot from my point of view is that at least we kept a clean sheet and saw the game out......there was a time not long ago, after a performance like that, when we'd have conceded in injury time...sometimes twice!!
I agree - but what money is there to spend? Jamie O'Hara was on talksport the other day - he's managing in the non-league system now and he said that people come up to him saying "x signed y" as if he should be signing them - yet people have no idea of the way it works or how easy/difficult it is to get deals done. Also said that more than 90% of deals which don't happen, nobody even knows they were trying. Obviously he's a far lower level than we are but he believes it's the same in the leagues - not as much in the premier as it's a much more public situation. Though Wyke played OK last night - but playing OK and not scoring could be an issue. Although he'd have scored had the defender missed the cross from Gooch. I'm just happy that we're creating a lot of chances. Maguire's radar was well off. Power and Gooch should've had a goal each (at least) - on another day, last night would've finished 3 or 4 nil! If we're not creating chances then it's a big problem. Fortunately that's not the case
I agree there is not much cash around, ( also of course I presume Mcgeady is still pulling a wage). What I would like to know was there any effort to offload Grigg and Wyke, if there was but we couldn't why on earth bring another similar player in Graham? Also O'Brien is similar too.... where us the pace! Let alone an eye for a goal.. imho we have too many similar players as strikers.. I cannot blame Donald for this as he is an absentee landlord!
Wyke is looking a lot sharper to me this season. I can't see how he can be dropped when he has scored in the last two games.
I thought we mixed it up well tbh. At times the keeper hit it long but we also played out from the back and got Gooch and Hume behind their defence. It's a shame Leadbitter isn't able to go box to box because we sometimes don't get enough people in and around the box during attacks. But I can't agree with people saying it was awful to watch ... ... I enjoyed it and thought some of our passing was excellent. If you watch the highlights, the move that created the goal was great one touch stuff involving half the team.
He has looked much better, I'll agree with that. I'd argue he has only scored one mind you, it was a clear own goal last night. Wyke never touched it. Checked safc.com and they state the same as what I saw
I agree Smug, I thought our performance was good on the eye. We mixed it up and played some good football when we got the ball onto the grass. First half after some very clever play, Power was though on goal and hit it at the keeper, second half Power and Wright missed easy chances that any other time would have burst the net and their keeper was fortunate with a save (face) from Gooch, so we could easily have scored 4+ and we wouldn’t be concerned about the lack of goals. As well as breaking the opposition play and spreading ours, Leadbitter is covering both wing backs allowing them to get forward and most of our chances come from out wide. We also look good without the ball, closing down with a high press, getting back into our positions quickly and maintain our shape. So all in all plenty to be positive about for me.
