There's a thread on OTIB that I thought was quite interesting regarding what players will benefit most from a new manager coming in and taking over. So I thought i'd give my thoughts on the players that could benefit more than others. Ribeiro has been fit for quite a while now which makes a nice change, providing he can keep it up then a new manager could lead to him re-establishing himself in the team. Cisse is pretty much a given, quality player and we need him in the team. Stead/Pitman - with a new boss there is every chance that NM will no longer be untouchable and players will get played on form. Big chance for the pair. Which brings me on the the other part... Which players have the most to lose through a new appointment? Marv would be one of the first names on the list. I know some people love the 'pressuring' or running round in circles, whatever you call it, but when the new boss sees how awful his passing and control are it's hard to see him keeping a starting 11 place. At least if we're still 'pushing for play-offs'. If they change the brief to 'stay midtable for ever' then he's capable. Any thoughts on who you'd play or drop?
youth could benefit, for example Edwards and Reid off the list could be players like Cole Skuse, David James
Ah but going back to the NM debate which seems to be going round, IMO, his performances only reflect the mood of the camp The right new manager will see him back performing (just like the rest of the team) and scoring again...
A new manager could see NM stay. I agree about Elliott i think his first few seasons he was great but unfortunately he hasn't improved but probably got worst. i would also hate to count how many chances he has in front of goals that he misses (positive is great positioning to have the chances). Hopefully any new manager coming in will sell or let go any players who are on a high wage which can't get in to the first team and any players who have long term injury issues like Jamie mac or fontaine who aren't bad players just won't play many games a season for the wage they are on. But guess we all have our own views as some fans don't even want millen to leave and some fans think Elliott or lee Johnson are our best players
Actually I thnk Marv will benefit from a new manager. I've thought for a while now that we expect too much of him - we want him to win the ball (this is what he's good at), get in the box (can do that too), be the target man for headers when we play 1 up front. If Millen is still in charge for the next game (god helps us!), watch what he asks Marv to do - the poor guy is knackered after 70 minutes. I know his distribution is not great (but certainly no worse than Skuse though?), but let's let the lad do the job he's good at.
I do agree, Marv's best performances have come alongside LJ and it's hardly surprising as his job was basically just win the ball then give it to LJ to pass it. I think it's an either/or situation regarding Marv and Skuse, personally I prefer Skuse as his covering is actually very good where Marv can get lost in the middle at times where he doesn't read the game. Still think we haven't really addressed the need for a creative CM player so far. Going back to what Prem said above regarding NM, i'm sure the mood of the camp does have something to do with it but since Pitman has come back in the team he looks so much hungrier and out to prove a point. A couple of games on the bench might do the same for NM?
elliott and cisse worked last year but i agree elliott runs about like a headless chicken with no impact maynard is no better than our other strikers carey too old james needs to go get another quality goalie in to go with deano
I think part of why we need someone from outside the club who knows little about our squad is too be able to make changes people inside wouldn't be willing to do. I for one would scrap Carey altogether, I havn't seen him put in a performance good enough to warrant staying in this league for well over 2 years now. McCallister is another one for me that I just don't see how he is Championship quality, and have never seen it.
