To be fair, our transfer window was pretty exceptional and it addressed some key areas. The CB area was the last piece.
To be fair, we are a very good team when not on form. You don't get nigh on 100 point by being on form every game. You get it by winning when your not at your best. I did suggest we could do with bringing in some young blood in the window, maybe not for straight away, but at least to let the current know the next was sat behind him.
Well, it is what it is now. We go again - even if we have to play Shaqiri at CB in Virgil's place. At least it's on the left hand side, and the ****er says he wants to fight for his place.
he backs off when faced with an opponent centrally but hes a wingers best friend out wide. he will always give you the cheap free. hes got the pace and on the ball he can be outrageous but as a cb he's got huge flaws. just watch what he does back. he will back off a guy to the point hes allowing the shot rather than be beaten.
As I say, nobody listens to me. I have been bleating about it since the Atletico debacle - Adrian had a fairytale story that should have ended with a thank you and a nice pay off the day the transfer window opened. We needed a back up, and Klopp must know that, imo.
I kicked off after the Madrid debacle, but was told he's only second choice, it doesn't matter. Well it ****ing matters now. Plus for a keeper Allison spends an awful lot of time injured.
He has to cover for trent 90% of the game. If he's pulled wide he's only got one cb covering the entire box, making sure that the player doesn't go further is imperative. You really think he backs off in one position and fly in in another by coincidence? On backing off, both him and virg do exactly the same, they back off and let the oppo take a shot from outside the area, confident in Allison behind them. Strange but its worked for quite awhile. You'd think that maybe the manager has possibly instructed them into some sort of tactic.
Who'd have thunk it? I fully agree. Hyypia (one of the best we've had) used to back off a lot as well, and put his foot in if the attacker gave the slightest heavy touch - it's a standard tactic. Lovren got stick for diving in, Gomez gets stick for not diving in. Ho-hum.
He'll just about fit underneath DCL's leap - which means he can legally jump undernath him and knock him off his balance. A man with a plan.
Crucial time this now for Joe, especially with dire old farts like me on his back. The point about carrying Trent is well made - he's a mediocre defender, but outstanding footballer in the same package. If Joe can get through the next few months (surely we'll buy another CB in January now?) without falling to pieces it'll build his character and confidence. I'm sure this is what Klopp is telling him. Make or break - have you got the balls, Joe? You deffo have the ability.
It's only a matter of time before he or Matip get injured again, I expect. Time to get our shooting boots on I think - our best defence is going to be attack for the foreseeable future.
Christ sake, just seen it again on MoTD 2 - Mane is totally, absolutely onside. At most, that's his ****ing elbow they've measured that from, or maybe some invisible tail or appendage that can only be detected from electro-magnetic spectrographs available only to VAR operatives. Absolutely comical - stand your ground Liverpool, and make them explain it: offsides were supposed to be objective, and these ****ers have been applying as much objectivity as Donald Trump when the KKK are in town.
That is clearly a tactic we use. I’ve said it a few times, watch VVD when a player is running at him centrally. He’ll retreat to about 20 yards and then cut off any pass and let the player have a shot. We let players shoot from 20/25 yards because alisson is a brilliant keeper and the chances of scoring from that distance are a lot smaller than if someone rushes out of position to make a tackle and either gives the chance of being beaten and you’re in the box for a shot, or play a pass into the space left behind. As I say, VVD does it more than anyone I’ve seen tbh so singling our Gomez for it when it seems like a legitimate tactic isn’t right. It works, and it was very noticeable during the villa game. Only issue is, Adrian isn’t as good a shot stopper and they got 3 lucky deflections.
yeah, shades of the 2014 team - **** defence, unbelievable attack. We're going to score more goals than you. And Joe matures and realises how good he is...
