Yeah I know.......premeditated attempts to nail an opponent by a GK in his own box are seemingly a thing now though. Who knew.

I wonder if you would have the same view if Adrian had done the same to Calvert-Lewin?

Remember the German goalkeeper, Schumacher, in the world cup?

The VVD tackle was when he slid on the floor, was in control, not reckless, won the ball BUT the follow through is bad.

There’s a massive difference between that and a challenge which is completely reckless, and the player is not control and nowhere near the ball.

But nice to see that you have zero clue about what you’re talking about. I even stressed that this isn’t even an Everton issue but glad to see that you took it that way. Once again, the small mentality kicks in

Tobes, you need to relax and let it go now. It’s too easy baiting you

I’d have not been wanting his address and claiming he should be banned for the season like, but hey.

So he was in control and yet he smashed the bloke straight legged above his ankle?

If you’re maintaining he’s in control there, then it’s a deliberate act by definition brains.

I didn’t mention Everton either, I was merely pulling apart your position, as I knew as soon as I posted that pic you’d try and deny any form of equivalence, and you didn’t disappoint, as you’re utterly clueless and as one eyed as they come.

I don't remember saying that. In my view it was reckless and he is very lucky Van Dijk was given offside. Not that he could have known that at the time.

I never said you did, but someone else did on this thread.

I agree btw, exactly what I’ve said all along. The only thing I’ve taken issue with, was that it was some deliberate act to try and harm the fella, it was just a clumsy as **** brain fart.

That is a completely bogus issue for Rule 12 of the game. Serious foul play is in the same category as violent conduct - misconduct. The ball does not have to be in play for a punishment to be levied. The VAR team had the rules and the ability to intervene in the situation. What they didn't have is the basic competence to do so.

Tell you what, we'll all email the PL and tell them to give Pickford a 3 match ban. Will that make everything better?

Hi Diego. No show without the drunken Punch. Read back on this and other threads - I'm completely against a retrospective ban. Well, except for the inept VAR officials involved. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Wasn't aimed at you in particular, just your post was the one i clicked reply on <laugh>

Seriously, the injury is a bad one but it happens to footballers all the time, it kind of comes with the job when two or even three strong men are competing for the same ball.
There was no intent to hurt from Pickford but today i saw something a lot worse.
Harry Kane looked over his shoulder then "made a back" for an opposition player coming in to head the ball.
That was much more dangerous as the man could have landed on his head and broke his neck, it was actually one of the few things that were a definite nono back when football was a tough game but today it never even got a mention by the commentators and the ref just ignored it.

Couldn't agree more - it was a wild, reckless, panicked lunge that should simply have been dealt with there and then, bogus drivel about offsides or not being an irrelevance. But look, I wouldn't want to make a hostage to fortune - Adrian could do that in our next game, mane is always capable of kicking someone in the head again, and Robbo has as much snide in him as a drunken Glaswegian on New years eve (which I like). All I'm saying, ffs, is can we all stop frigging pretending that it couldn't be dealt with on the pitch at the time. This offside-I'm-barley routine is provable nonsense. Just read the ****ing rules people; read the ****ing rules.

Tbf to Tim Cahill (who I've always liked), he too is making the exact same point as me. Well done sir, well done. Lot better than that jerk Osman whose first reaction was 'Well Van Djik going off has made this a much better game from the perspective that Liverpool were utterly dominant until then', he opined as he jizzed in his kecks. :emoticon-0145-shake

Virgil van Dijk: I'm fully focused on my recovery - I'll be back

Virgil van Dijk is focused on returning to fitness as quickly as possible after it was confirmed that the Liverpool centre-back requires knee surgery.

The Reds' No.4 sustained a knee injury during the early stages of Saturday's 2-2 Merseyside derby draw at Goodison Park and further assessment revealed that an operation will be needed.

Van Dijk posted the following message on social media on Sunday evening:

This afternoon I met with a leading consultant to start the process of planning the finer details of my rehabilitation following the incident yesterday.

I’m now fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible.

Despite the obvious disappointment, I’m a firm believer that within difficulty lies opportunity and with God’s help I’m going to make sure I return better, fitter and stronger than ever before.

In football, as in life, I believe everything happens for a reason and it’s important to try and keep level-headed whether going through the highs or the lows. With the support of my wife, kids, family and everyone at Liverpool, I’m ready for the challenge ahead.

I’d like to thank everyone for the messages of support, it’s meant a huge amount to me and my family, and I’ll now be doing everything possible to support my teammates in any way I can ahead of a big few weeks ahead as I take my own recovery day by day. I’ll be back.

No mention of Everton or Pickford. It is inconceivable that the club or player haven't contacted the player to at least send their best wishes for a successful rehabilitation and recovery. That's the very least they could do.

I have been moaning about about that dangerous manoeuvre for years . Should be at least an automatic booking imo.
In fact i have a "thing" about the prevalence of playing the man rather than the ball these days an example being "protecting" the ball which in practise just means well away from the ball sticking a leg across the run of an oppo player so he can't play it ,

Having 'no intent' should not be an excuse. Two feet off the ground, lunging in, nowhere near the ball, studs up, both feet were knee level.

I don't care that he had 'no intention' to hurt VVD (which I find laughable because why else would you go in that reckless and rash). Challenges done out of malice or accidental can both lead to the same thing. A player's season has been ended by a stupid reckless challenge. It's time to start protecting players more.
