Defending the title was never going to be easy, it just became a whole lot harder. We have a good team, but there's no doubt that Alisson and Virgil are the crucial elements in making the defence good enough to complete the jigsaw. Ah well, back to the 4-3 games.
You are the living proof why LFC is the most despised team in world football. Until people like you change your attitude, it will remain the same for decades. And yes United are more popular with neutral supporters.
Have to agree with that I think the lack of apology on what is definitely a career changing challenge is the least he could have done But he has form with those challenges I don’t think it’s a club thing that is an individual- and I am certain that someone of Carlo’s apparent nature will already be planning Pickfords departure scant consolation for us like However Despite all the doom and gloom - if we can get Thiago up and running and Allison back Thiago will have to be our rolls Royce - he has all the attributes and he can protect our back line best form of defence attack Hopefully we don’t wallow in this as a team and we come out galvanised and fighting
This game just showed we will have to make adjustments to our game. What is clwar is we can score goals woth our outfield players. I only fear for Gomez as he has the attention span of Donald Trump. That second Everton goal was obvious the moment Trent was beaten by Digne. That he watched all that happening and didnt anticipate the cross is why he will struggle to nail down the LCB slot. I see Klopp dropping Fabinho there with Thiago holding. Such a shame a good game was messed by reckless play and refereeing as that is what we should have been talking about. Mane is unreal and once they play a few more games with Thiago it is 4-3 scores all the way
Joe gomez is more like a French general. he's main tactic is retreat. he did it yesterday on one occasion and let a shot in. he did it v atletico in extra time and he did it v villa 3 times. all he does is dive in and give cheap frees out wide as well. he is outrageously talented on the ball but is not the player we need now.
I do think we will do a 13/14 or 17/18 where we just look to our score everyone. We have the players for it. It will be risky and our hearts may not be able to handle it. My concern is that the defence is what turned us into winners. Very difficult to win with just a gung ho approach
Gomez is a weird one because he and VVD were the best partnership we had (when it was on form and it was on form for a very long time). Hoping this is just a blip ...
The guy in his peak and in a world class squad which should be challenging for title and CL, and his season over due to reckless challenge by an absolute idiot who has a history of doing this. It won’t make a difference to VVD but Pickford needs to be punished because we cannot allow challenges like this to happen unpunished. it’s the same with richarlison. A standard 3 match isn’t enough. These are potential leg breakers, career Enders. Players need to be protected.
I can predict he will do it again. He is just reckless and will not learn. Next one might cause a brawl for sure
You honestly believe some of your more extremist fans wouldn't be happy if those injuries were enough to undermine our title defence? They'd be hopping with delight. I'm sure if the roles were reversed some of ours would be just as gleeful - some people lack a sense of proportion.
He did it to Alli a few years ago and hes not been the same since. My issue isn’t with Everton specifically - anyone who makes these sorts of challenges should have a lengthy ban.
He must be one of the quickest CB's too, and no less than Troy Deeney rated him a lot better in a physical struggle than Lovren (though that doesn't say much). But he definitely lost his mojo after that mauling by Sterling in June, which is a pity, as up until then he had always had him in his pocket in every head -to-head they'd played. But look, I whined and raged about Klopp not getting another CB in the window even before the injury to Virgil. Our second CB is woefully out of form, our third is injury prone and only plays half a season at most, and our fourth has moved to Russia. We have two Academy kids too. We'll see Milner at CB for some games, I'm telling you. And Windy, and Fab. They could suffice alongside Virgil at a pinch, but not next to JoGo or Matip. This going to be one long, hard season. Probably best to null and void it until a vaccine has been developed, tested, and all the old turkeys and the vulnerable have been Covid -free for a year. I'm only thinking about the NHS, honestly. (There's tons of this crap if you want to see the Let's Call The Whole Thing Off thread on the Prem Board).
Come on lads - Yes VVD is a big loss. We will miss him. But get Alisson and Thiago back, and we pretty much have our best squad available. If we fall apart just because VVD is missing, then we don’t deserve to win anything. it’s time to prove the ‘mentality monsters’ tag that we have rightly earned over the past 2 years.
Newspaper reports saying Pickford can still get a retrospective ban for the tackle on Virgil. Regardless of whether it was a foul or not because the whistle had gone, the donkey still could've ended his career.
You're right Jimmy, but I've worked long and hard on Not606 for over a decade to develop a reputation as a moaning old whingebag. I spent two decades in the 80's and 90's accompanying my late dad in the old Kemlyn Rd stand - that mob even belly-ached when we ruled the League and Europe season-after-season. So I ain't missing the opportunity to cry a river over this crisis too. Just ignore me - everyone else except Telatio, the Manc homo on the Prem board (hi ), does anyway.
