.....with no great history of winning anything or expectations of future success......or of a club with a proud tradition and much greater potential struggling currently?

The reason I ask is the contrast between the positions at Nottingham Forest and Watford, currently.

Should we always be grateful for whatever scraps from the Championship table fall our way, and provide we finish 21st or higher, consider it to have been a "good" season? Are we taking the easy way out, simply settling for mediocrity, comfortable in the knowledge that we can always blame lack of resources for a season of struggle and for the likelihood that we could never exist at the top level?

Would it be better to support a club like Forest, who have had their great moments (admittedly a fair while ago), are struggling just at present but have the potential to become an established Premiership club once again? Would we enjoy a much bigger fan-base, better ground, better atmosphere and take heart from the fact that we must improve at some point and then take our rightful place once again at the top table (like Southampton seem to be doing)?

Nottingham Forest is simply an example. There are quite a few others, the Sheffield clubs for instance, Coventry, Leeds, Derby & Middlesbrough (although both these last two are doing better this season).

Of course most of us, (including me) will stoutly maintain that it's much more fun being a fan of a "smaller" club, holding its own amongst the larger fry in this League and occasionally giving some of the "bigger" clubs a bloody nose. But are we being totally honest with ourselves? Maybe, just maybe, one or two of us deep in the back of our minds wonder what it would be like on the other side of the fence.........

Dont have the choice mate hornet through and through , for me I couldnt follow another team with the same passion and intensity! Just wouldnt feel right!
Over the years we have had our moments , and yes we have punched above our weight for ages and still are!Lets hope we continue to do so! finishing 21st this season would be job done and for that matter the following season as well!! stay in the league and reduce the debt is the main objective! To continue to repair the damage caused by the last failed attempt at the prem !

That's a very good question. Since football was not in my family, i could have gone one of three ways. Taken a club that wins everything, supported Watford, or...as my dad had a soft spot for the place having lived there during the war, supported L*t*n. i chose Watford. A girl at school was a big Watford fan, that was an influence, as was being able to get to matches, not that i ever went in those early days. A 15 year old girl didn't go to football on her own! Did i make the right choice? Yes. Though supporting perhaps Chelsea for example would have given me bragging rights, nothing fills the soul like a surprise win, or 1500 Watford fans singing their hearts out when we're being trounced. The big club fans don't experience...'football'..in the raw sense of supporting. I feel sorry for them.

I think it is better to live with hope in your heart rather than expect that everything will come to you on a plate. There are many teams in every league who believe before the season kicks off that this just might be their year, yet only very few will succeed.

Division 3 (South) was the place I started in, and it came as a real blow when we finished the season and found ourselves in the new fourth division. The joy of actually getting a promotion was something totally new to me, and there was belief that we could build on that. Unfortunately the usual Watford blight of money problems soon put a stop to that.

You buy a ticket for a game and you have no idea what you will be getting for your money. That is accepted, something different to most other purchases, but you just trust that your team will do the best that they can for you. It is when players don't appear to care that you might feel hard done by. Whatever the shortcomings of the present group of players at Watford, they do seem to try.

The minor problems will have been sorted by then.

My infrequent trips to the Vic only ever produce wins. I did ask Baz if he would fly me in for all home games to keep the run going, but he admitted that he was not on first name terms with Micheal O'Leary and would not be able to provide the money as he had just found out the cost of beer taps. ;)

I drag my self accross the country every other weekend to watch em. Yes i'll ave favourites on motd but id never pay to watch them.

Sad thing is im losing it with a decent forecast id rather fish than watch watford.

This saturday i caught a red gurnard, realy striking red colour and they make a huge grunting sound once on the boat, put it back. This might seem unrelated but if id been doing anything else id been depressed all evening but heading out fishing just ckears the mind .- 30 miles put in aa 20 foot boat is bril
