Was reading through some back articles from last week and spotted the article below regarding Cairney missing his Scotland u21's game (as well as yesterdays win). At the bottom it states that a number of Premier League sides remain interested in him. Is this lazy journalism left over from his hype at Premier League level, or do we think he has done enough to grab the attention of some higher level clubs? I for one think he has the potential to go all the way, but he would benefit from staying with us for the forseeable future, get his head down and help us get promoted. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scotland/272806-tom-cairney-to-miss-scotland-under-21-qualifier/
Historically I've been this lads biggest critic. Ive struggled to see him as anything other than lazy, slow, backwards looking type of player. This season under Nigels tutorlidge he's lost a load of wieght and apparently learnt how to get stuck in! Which is why he's appeared so often. I still have problems with his fitness, towards the end of games he stops tackling and slows down to a walking pace. Premier league he is not, Championship he might be but he'd got a long way to go to catch up with the better championship players.
I like the lad but am probably looking through rose coloured glasses as i havent't seen a live city game for some time. Think he has it in him to go all the way and i cannot understand what is holding him back. People still talk about lazyness and i wonder if we are missing something here. Is it lack of concentration? Coaches can often cure this.
I think he'll easily find a premier league team (hopefully us ) in the next couple of seasons and become an established top flight player in years to come. Great passer of the ball and one of the greatest natural talents I've seen at city.
You don't need to be quick as you get more time on the ball. He proved last time he could cut it in the prem. Bullard never went for tackles yet he played well enough in the top flight to get an England call up. You don't need to be the 'complete' midfielder to play in the prem as there are hardly any. You need to either be a decent all rounder or brilliant technically, which he is.
Matt mate what have you been watching ? Brilliant technically ??? FFS how many goals as Cairney scored? How many wonder free kicks have gone in? How many assists has he had? How has his tethnical brilliance helped City score a shed load of goals ? Take those Rose tinted glasses off cock and take a close honest look. Cheers
He rarely ever gives the ball away and can kick a ball accurately. He's started to get stuck in a bit more too. He's only young so is only going to get better as he gets more experience and plays more games. I'm sorry for recognising that he has ability when it comes to kicking a football. I'll make sure to slag him off next time he performs well...
I am his biggest critic most of the time and i agree he is not a premier league player yet..... but all you have to do is remember the goals against Norwich and Southend on his debut to know the boy has the talent to makeit.
You are an idiot. The kid is 20, the type of player he is will have another 15 years left if he wants it. Tell me how many goals Carrick scores, how many wonder free kicks he has scored, how many direct assist he has had? Not many and he is a vital member of Englands best for the past 3 years. Xavi didn't start getting recognised till he was 27, players like this take a while to develop mentally. I'm not saying Cairney will be the quality Xavi is, but give the lad a chance. Let him develop, not all players are world beaters and we should be thankful we have a type of player like him as they are rare enough in the top flight nevermind the Championship. The lad oozes quality, he rarely loses the ball unlike certain midfielders we've had in the past. He has the quality at set pieces, he knows how to pick out a pass if it's needed, he has a good shot on him as well. NP + staff are developing his defensive game which will help him and i'm sure they'll be working on his fitness at the same time. If you can't appreciate a player that keeps the ball moving whether it be forwards, sideways or backwards then that's a shame. Go and tell Alex Ferguson he shouldn't be using Carrick, go tell Guardiola he shouldn't be using Xavi, go and tell the previous Milan managers and the Juventus manager they shouldn't have been using Pirlo. Look at the Meireles for Chelsea, he is playing deep, keeping the ball moving. But what does he know? Another way to look at it is we are playing him like this to develop his game before moving him further upfield. Just like Wenger did with Fabregas, Fabregas was played alot deeper before the past couple of years, just like Wilshere is playing alot deeper to develop his game. Fabregas then ended up as the central figured of a 4-2-3-1 behind the striker and Wilshere will also be moved upfield soon.
It's more credit to the management team that they have got Cairney back on track and I agree that he is technically very good. He's got some goals in him to come this season too and I look forward to that, can only help us even more.
Cairney is a very decent player and like somebody else said on here, he does not lose possession of the ball at all or very rarely. I do have to say though that he has not been his best in past 3-4 games, off the boil a bit but I do think he will be a Prem player in his career. His distribution is amongst the best we've got in our current side, he has definitely got more physical in the tackle this season which I thought he lacked a bit last season, but he's a young kid and very bright prospect for City and will only get better, I tipped him for player of the season early doors but he has dipped slightly in recent games, but his top draw and I'm sure he'll be back with avengence after his injury and international break if he can get back in the side after Saturdays win !!!
He needs a lot of time on the ball, which is why he's looked better in the Premier League than he has in the Championship, though he seems much improved this season. If we can play two wingers, as we did on Saturday, then I think Koren will stay in the middle and keep him out the team.
