I saw that one too. I think Leeds vs Spurs at Boothferry Park was also that season, I also went to that one. (Elland Road was closed due to Leeds fans being naughty).
Do you mean the one in November 1974? We won 2-0 and he had left United by then. I was there. I was at the Northern Ireland match as well. I didn't need to skive school because we were fortunate enough to be in an area without power that afternoon so the school was closed. We would have gone anyway just to see him and take the consequences.
1971. I was at that one too. Strange match. It was the first I had been at where I didn't care who won.
I did say 'vaguely' and it was all a bit strange times. Not as strange as these mind. Was it 2-0? I do remember smiling in the other kids faces when back to school
i worked in town at Danby's Plumbing at the time. My second job since leaving school. I asked a twat of a manager if I could take the afternoon off. He said no. I didn't go, but apparently I didn't miss much so he did me a favour. I didn't stay there long, what a ****hole.
Yes. We won 2-0. We lost by the same score at Old Trafford. I remember very little about the game now. The Northern Ireland game was poor. Best did very little. The Leeds game was completely memorable.
Didn't we play them in a pre-season before that campaign. Think it was a 1-1. Pearson scored for them. Can't recall the city scorer.
I think we might have done as part of the Pearson deal. If we did I would have been there. I found this but I don't remember it. Why would we play a friendly in the middle of December:https://www.footballprogrammes.net/...-v-hull-city-1972-friendly-match-p-40232.html
The game was before the season kicked off. Definitely in August. Both teams were in short sleeve shirts. I think John Kaye was the city boss. Tommy Docherty was Utd boss with Tommy Cavanagh is #2
I've got this programme. For those of you who aren't old enough to have been there, have a look at the link and appreciate the cover art. http://thinwhitelinemagazine.com/2014/10/hull-city-vs-manchester-united-division-2-1974/
I was at that game and have the programme somewhere. Waggy 1 Mally Lord 1. In the write up to the programme featured in the link it says that Terry Neill left after a nasty terrace campaign against him and that is totally untrue. There was no campaign to get rid of Terry Neill and he left on his own accord. In fact he left to go to Spurs if I remember correctly. Anyone remember the Leeds v Sunderland 5th rd FA Cup replay played at Boothferry Park around the 1970's ? I was there too, crowd some 40.000 and one of the best atmosphere's I have ever been in at the old ground. Sunderland in the East Stand, Leeds on Bunkers, the noise created actual did make your hair stand on end. A very feisty game too and the ref was attacked by a Sunderland fan who ran on the pitch and belted him over the head with a rucksack., I remember Leeds got a late penalty. Made me realise what Boothferry Park could have been like if City had ever made Division One. Still one of the best football nights of my life even after all these years.
you're right Neill did go to spurs and managed to keep them up by a point, then he built a decent side before bailing out to Arsenal where he was quite successful. My old man, long gone, bribed a gateman to get a couple of tickets for the Leeds - Sunderland game. Yes it was some atmosphere, Sunderland brought loads that night, more than leeds, cracking game and a fierce rivalry. Far better than the leeds-spurs game.
