Wow oh wow. 91 race wins.

Very significant for me as I (unashamedly) only really became a proper F1 fan at the start of Hamilton's career. I used to have a passing interest in F1, but when Hamilton burst onto the scene in '07 something about the way he drove really caught my imagination and I've hardly missed a single race since.

I've since gone back to watch loads of classic seasons and will continue to enjoy the sport long after he is gone, but my love affair with F1 really did start with Hamilton.

Here's to an exciting end to the season, hopefully with a few races that have a bit more action than today.

Totally get that. That person for me was Nigel Mansell. Still a die-hard fan all these years later. :)

Should probably add... Hamilton is something special. It was evident when he first showed up in the sport that he was an exceptional talent, and he's quite rightly put himself among the absolute very best that have have raced in F1. Absolutely well deserved.

Mercedes have been utterly dominant this year, but with a few proper race tracks thrown in and everyone's perfect routines broken it's actually been an alright year with some cracking races. Only 6 races left, I'm going to miss it.

Hamilton is just a superb driver who has got better and better with age.

Like any era, fans will carp about him being in the best car or a dominant car. The kid is downright fast and he has been fast in EVERY car he’s ever been given, including the 2009 dog McLaren which never let him truly defend his title, and of course he is was still competitive against Vettels mighty Red Bull.

He has learnt from those around him about ruthlessness, maximising points, managing tyres etc.

He’s the complete package now for sure and it’s well deserved. Imagine if you’d have said in December 2013 that by 2020 he’d be about to succeed Michael Schumacher as the most successful driver ever.

    Quite incredible really.

Congratulations to Lewis on equalling Schumacher's 91 race wins. Doing so when having world champions as teammates unlike Schumacher who had the likes of Irvine , Herbert and Barrichello who were not of the standard of Lewis Hamilton teammates. We also have Lewis racing the likes of Alonso ,Button , Rosberg and Bottas on equal terms unlike Schumacher who had team orders and was allowed hours of testing while the likes of Herbert was not and denied data from Schumacher's side of the garage. Lewis one of the most credible champions ever and deserves to be mentioned along with F1 greats past and present.

Sir Jackie , He he he.

I watched the Ch 4 version. No one can take it away from Lewis, he is an exceptional driver.
No mention of Vettel and his spin here, or maybe I missed it. Am I cynical for suggesting he made a classic error yet again when he spun. Ch 4 commentary was kind suggesting it was the white line, I thought it was change in airflow as he switched from one side to the other of the car in front. I am really not a fan of his but I wish him better luck.

What Hamilton has done is superb and deserves recognition, but not at the expense of what Schumacher achieved.

Love him or hate him (and the greats usually do polarize people), Schumacher absolutely transformed what a racing driver is. To win, you had to be an athlete, to win you have to not just be a driver, you have to be an integral part of the team. He integrated himself with sponsors, suppliers and demanded nothing but the best from them and himself. He commanded the sport, and his ruthlessness brought him incredible success. You can criticize some of his moves but you really can't criticize what he achieved.

Personally I always considered Schumacher to be a cheat, all the other world F1 champions were not, and Hamilton is the best of those.

Followed F1 since watching Jim Clarke, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt, in Black and White on BBC TV

Went to my first F1 race in 71 at Brands Hatch where Jo Siffert died.

Sgtbhaji recognises he was ruthless, he greyed the boundaries for sure and should have been reprimanded for some of the things. SgtBhaji is right also in saying he changed what is required of a driver, immersing himself in the team, fitness etc. In that regard he created a new standard.

It's possible to disagree with somebody without acting like a dick. If you want to challenge his view or opinion, please do it in a civil manner, or not at all.

I reported Viva for his comment a few days ago but seems his comment remains while Ernie's has been removed. :emoticon-0149-no:

Its OK, I removed my own comment, it was appropriate but would have increased the idiotic response.
