Anyone else finding it hard to gloat?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Oct 2, 2011.

  1. I predicted we would win today, but now that it's happened I feel a little sad. It's like the end of an era. Celebration seems a little bit shallow, somehow.

In former seasons, beating the Arsenal was, for me, the best thing next to getting laid, but all I really feel is very, very sad. In fact, beating LFC felt like the bigger achievement.

I don't think it has anything to do with the North London power-shift thing, more to do with the stark realisation that Arsenal simply are not going to be any threat to us, at all, this season.

Any one else feel like this?

I'm not interested in gloating, I'm interested in finishing top 4 and winning a trophy.Today and Thursday were 2 great steps along that route.

  3. It still bothers me that we can't beat United, though.

A few years ago you could have said that about Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
    3 down...

To be perfectly honest, today was much harder work than it should have been.

If we can get a decent result up at Newcastle next time out, I think we can seriously consider ourselves to be in with a good shot of a Champions League place next season.

It'll be interesting to see how Newcastle line up against us.
They seem to be using a 4-4-2 with Best and Ba up top, but you'd have to fancy us to take advantage of that if they stick with it.

Tough place to go at the moment though, as they're on form, confident and scoring goals.

Victory is always nice especially against the goons but today did feel a bit less important than usual. Surely we will finish above Arsenal this season.

  8. I have a strong feeling that quite a few teams are going to finish above Arsenal this season <ok>

  9. That's exactly it <ok>

Today's win was completely expected by everyone, even most of the Gooners.

We definately thought we were going to win, personally i didn't think we played great. After the 2nd goal we did something we rarely do,looked comfortable. We seem to be learning to win games while not being brilliant. The Newcastle game is massive now, they are in good form as are we,if we do win i think a real belief will be there. As for gloating the same reason others have stated,we thought we would win,so not the same stomach churning, gut wrenching feeling as normal. But great to beat Arsenal.

  11. I'm hoping that Newcastle are not going to be too much of a test for us. Look at who they've played so far - teams we would be expected to beat if we have serious top 4 aspirations.

Having said that, I don't think we've ever found St James Park an easy place to travel to, and I would not be too disappointed with a draw.

I'd say that it's more like getting paid.
It's a good thing and you're pleased that it's happened, but most people expect it.
You'd be very pissed off if it didn't, though.

We are only six games into the season, lets not get too carried away. We still need to be more convincing against the big teams. The Win today (Sunday) was nice, but I still don't think we looked that good. The Chelsea game in December should be more of a benchmark.

I think what takes the gloss off of it for you is that we know we are **** at the moment.

losing to spurs - again - makes us ****. No disrespect, but that's the way it is.

We expect to beat you, consistently out perform and win more trophies than you,
The fact that we aren't, is a barometer of where Arsenal football club are at.

It'll all come down to home and away form really. Home form seems to be fairly solid and White Heart Lane looks like a hard place to go to this season, but when you guys have to travel away to other stadiums, that's where things can start to shift. It's the same for pretty much every club.

As a Newcastle fan, I wouldn't be confident of a result at WHL, but considering the match is up at SJP, where we're playing very well, I think we can take something from it.

Why should it be hard to gloat? Because you've managed to go from being light-years behind Arsenal to being on an equal footing with them in the space of a few years? Wow, that's not arrogant at all...

Disagree with this 6061, I always thought this game would be hard work, I'm surprised an experienced follower of football like your good self didn't expect that either. We did ourselves proud in a North London derby, beating a team that will nearly always raise their game (in terms of effort and desire, if not quality) for such a fixture, us likewise of course.

From what I have seen and I have watched again,we let Arsenal boss the midfield for 60 min then Sandro came on and they didn't have a sniff after that.
Mind you with all that posession Friedel hardly had a save to make the whole match.
