So we called for the Sherman’s to apologise - gwaaann Denise They refused. But then were forced to essentially vote against their own proposal lol https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/14/premier-league-efl-bailout-project-big-picture
I'm seeing suggestions of £50M bail out, but are they being given that money or loaned it. I know people could argue, why should the Prem giveaway money, but as a loan it's just delaying the inevitable until a later date, unless the loan is only bound for repayment on a future profit basis. I don't know the finer detail of this is what I'm saying?
I’m going to put a slightly different slant on this. Early in my career if I had to implement change I would sometimes overplay my hand knowing full well that it wouldn’t be accepted. What it did do, was promote conversation and quite often a solution closer to what I was originally after. Now I don’t know there real motives but they seemed to have secured a strategic review on the back of this proposal. Will be interesting to see where this leads. If you take the emotion and football rivalry out of the equation, none of the clubs we support would turn down additional income, no matter how they come by it.
I'm pretty certain my clubs chairman will be relieved at the bail out. My concern would be is that if he's looking to sell the club, again finer print, how will they ensure (not suggesting he would), he does not do a runner with their money. So many questions around this.
Is that each or total. If it’s total then £50m divided by the 48 clubs may secure there survival for the next month.
What I would like to see is the money secured for the sole purpose of running the football club, not directors, chairman or other third parties. Basically the money can only be used to pay bills, but not to pay money owed to share holders. Also I would like to know the finer detail about any repayments.
Think I read that £20m ish will be in the form of grants, and that L1 clubs will naturally get more than L2. Not sure how far that'll realistically go though should there be no supporters til Spring.
Apparently there's reluctance about a one size fits all for the championship due to the wealthy owners some clubs have.
I can understand that, I suppose the lower leagues are less of a risk, but the risk probably increases massively at championship level. By that ^^ I mean dodgy chairman.
Furlough FC and Franchise United we’re knocked back. brilliant. Let them **** off as part of some Euro league. The English league will survive without them.
Understandable when clubs are selling their stadiums to fund signing a load of mediocre players for a tenth promotion push. A million ain’t gonna cover just player wages for long at some clubs.
It’ll vary by club, but Scally @brb ’s club owner was on the radio the other week saying they were circa £1.5m in the hole due to COVID and that forecast was to the year end, so whilst this amount won’t be enough to fill the entire void, it’ll be enough to take the pressure off their cash flow situation for more than a month......
I see they claimed victory afterwards, as despite being made to essentially vote against their own proposal and called out for their snide behaviour, the agreement to have an ongoing dialogue around change was a great success apparently. Only not really, as this issue has been bobbing on and off the table for 7/8 years now. I’m not sure what’s broken myself, as all I can see, is the biggest turnover clubs wanting an ever bigger slice of the cake, same as it ever was.
They just want the bigger slice as they seem to have been denied the closed shop European league many of the top 16 European clubs wanted. They can do one for me, become a Harlem globetrotter league. Mainly for TV audiences, they will be replaced, FC United of Manchester a starlet if what can be done.
Not sure using Gillingham as an example works tbh. Some national league clubs operate on a bigger budget than the Gills
