I’m all for more money going to the lower leagues, cap on away ticket prices etc, but this all smacks of mafia like control for the Top 6
Bring on the World Super League with Liverpool playing the richest teams in the world while goons in Scandinavia clap like seals.
And the Championship sides still have the say of guaranteeing promotion by finishing top two. No sympathy for Championship sides who finish 3rd/4th and can't beat the 3rd worst PL side but still think they deserve to play in the PL.
Looks like the top teams just going for a power grab. They orgasm at the thought of having a Barca/Real situ over here.
Talks like this have been going on for decades. Now the big clubs are pushing for this to actually happen.
Opportunism by the big Prem clubs, why am I even shocked, how to exploit the events of Coronavirus, all because they were asked to dip their hands in their pockets.
They’ve probably realised that the arse has fallen out of Spanish and French football and ditched that idea now
In reality it'd be 6 though as that's all that's needed for a decision. Mental to think the top 6 could veto another clubs takeover in fear of it making them competitive. I wouldn't say Saints is a top 9 club either.
Is it ****. This is merely blatant opportunism from the 2 American owned clubs who are trying to drive it. It’s nothing more than a power grab with the aim of putting all of the decision making power of the PL into the hands of the ‘big 6’. Ultimately their goal is the split of the TV rights that they’ve been bleating about for years, the rest of this proposal is nothing but window dressing and an attempt to deflect away from their real aim.
I'm all for it if the 9 special clubs have to enter a monthly draw to have napalm scattered over their stadium on match day.
Must be missing something here but is not supposed to be a good thing for lower league clubs? Its designed to save them from going under.
So, so far this last week we’ve had Man City trying to put top sides B teams in the EFL, further charges to watch football (probably the least controversial) and now this. Football is ****ed...
It's pretty transparent really. There is no way that this is for the betterment of football, it's solely the top 6 trying to tilt everything in their favour. Thing is, I don't have a strong opinion on it any more, a decade ago I'd have been aghast and yet now this just feels like a natural progression to the destruction of the current structure of top flight football. Give it 20 more years and we'll be talking of a franchise type structure with relegation or promotion only allowed for certain clubs. It's hard to care really if you don't support one of the top clubs, fans of all others are just there to make up the numbers and when those numbers dwindle due to being served up trash for a couple of generations the PL will still be able to sell Man U vs Liverpool 5 times a season to a billion+ people in the world. Seem to recall a lot of fans of certain clubs talking about the #integrity of the game. Don't cry to me when they bring in play-offs to decide who wins the league. #don'tmakemelaugh
You are missing something yes. They can give money to the lower leagues and instead of just doing so they're saying they will provided they (the top 6 clubs) can make a bunch of changes in their favour - or else they'll veto funding going to the lower leagues. Less altruism, more blackmail.
Interesting that United are pushing this. There's no guarantee they'd stay up in an 18 team league under Ole imo.
They're also trying to reduce the massive difference in revenue between PL and Championship clubs which drives relegation clubs to act irresponsibly
Don’t all 20 clubs currently get a vote on PL changes? If so it’s a non-starter. *****loid window licking farm animal divkids like Astro will just have to cry bout it.
