Agree. Fantastic player. Could have achieved so much more if he hadn’t had so many problems. And leaving football aside, I feel for him as a person. Sad.
Early Gazza was a sight to behold, he would just slalom past defenders like they weren't there. The injury in the FA Cup final killed a lot of his pace but he still retained the ability to do things out of the ordinary. I do think that Grealish could be a very good player for England and has that little extra in his locker.
I know a lot of people, mostly Saints fans, make the point that Matthew Le Tissier was every bit as good as Gazza and should have played in his place, but that’s missing the point I think. Imagine for a moment what those England teams in the 90’s would have been like with BOTH Gazza and Le Tiss playing!
I’m one player that has always said that Gazza was the only one above Le Tiss. The bloke was incredible
Yep for sure. Even better than one of our own. His feet were so quick, and a good football brain also. I always thought the tackle v Forrest effed him up, I think he suffered due to that.
Anybody else remember big Clyde?, it must've been so hard being the only black player in England at that time and he paved the way for the likes of Cyrille Regis and Viv Anderson later. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/54485277
Cant seem to find the england game on bbc or itv for tonight. I thought england games had to be on terrestrial tv channels ?
yes. One of my earlier memories was him in the away kit witch they reused recently, on a playing card (pre panini sticker albums )
Good 2-0 win for Sholing away against a good Cirencester team who finished 6th last season to continue a promising start to the season for The Boatmen.. http://www.sholingfc.co.uk/index.ph...atch-reports/592-cirencester-town-0-2-sholing Next up a big cup game at Portsmouth Road, Tuesday night against Walton Casuals in the FA Cup, who can boast such luminaries as Tony Gale and Jonathan Pearce on their board. Should Sholing win they would be one game from reaching the First Round proper (imagine if they drew The Skates!).
Just to slap fans in the face further the Premier League is looking into ‘Project Big Picture’ aimed at reducing the Prem from 20 to 18 teams. Don’t see how this suits anyone outside the regular European qualifiers, surely it’s a non starter?
It's not just that reduction, either. The proposals in general are monumental. Would be the biggest shake-up since the introduction of the PL itself.
I haven't double-checked, but I think we would be one of the nine sides with special voting rights (the big six, Everton, us and West Ham I think are currently the nine longest serving PL sides?) - assuming of course these proposals were to come in whilst we were still a PL side. From an entirely biased point of view, some of us might think of that as good for us. But firstly, it would only be the case whilst we were still in the PL - and of course, reducing the league down to 18 sides would increase the chances of getting relegated (even with the third to bottom side getting a potential reprieve through the play-offs). And secondly, when it comes to to the "special voting" of those nine sides, it only needs a 6-3 majority. So if the big six always vote together (which they invariably always would), then the views of the other three become irrelevant anyway.
I think that is their attempt to get this over the line, because I can’t see how this gets a majority (bribe 9 clubs with super votes). It is really very obviously not in the interests of the League in general, or the Game and it will only benefit a minority of the PL.
What a bunch of tossers. Let’s just vote them to **** off and let them form a European Super League and be done with it. stinks
He was a very troubled individual Fran and although he was an adult and could be accused of not being in control, there was a lot of mitigation to go with it. He wasn’t very mentally stable. If you have Netflix, you should check out the documentary on him. Edit: re-Reading your post, you may have been referring to the tackle. Sorry. Yes, that was his doing. He was hyper that day. He spent a lot of the warm up trying to drop kick footballs from the penalty area on to the heads of the people in the marching band. He succeeded.
