Get the feeling that McCann not all that comfortable with players who have been around for a while, maybe they ask to many questions regards tactics.
I’d come to similar conclusion. Every man and his dog can see what that team is lacking, except the manager. Maybe Sandy Row isn’t so rough and tough. I’d also ask for a 30 something centre half to kick one of those fannies into touch we have pretending to be a centre half.
Sorry pal, but you talk so much ****e. Wilks was fit tonight, he could've played last week but wasn't risked, he's trained all week. He just had a piss poor game. He was up against a couple of young CBs who've been leaking goals, he should've had them for dinner.
Completely agree, although I think Magennis has done well so far this season (minus the Crewe game). He's never going to score buckets of goals and that's not his job in this team, but he holds the ball up, drags us up the pitch and brings our more skilful players into the game. I can't think of a moment in the game today when Hakeeb got the ball in a decent area. Up against two young CBs, Josh would've been licking his lips, he'd have bullied them. No alternatives in midfield, I've been saying we're short of someone and that's looking more and more obvious. No clue what happens if Honeyman gets injured but it's difficult to bring somebody in who's going to largely sit on the bench. Lack of options upfront too if Scott's out for any lengthy period, I do wonder whether we'll have another go at Randell Williams, he'll be getting cheaper as we move closer to the deadline as he's out of contract in 12 months and it doesn't appear that there's anybody else in for him. The perfect reality check tonight, it's not a major issue. Even after tomorrow's fixtures we can't drop lower than third. I'm sure everyone would've snapped someone's hand off if we were offered 4 wins out of 5 and 4 clean sheets at the beginning of the season.
I didn't see the game for obvious reasons but never expected to wake up to that scoreline. Seeing the comments it seems we were outfought by them, and Terry out-thought by Barton. Shades of last season spring to mind, capitulate too easily. We certainly seem to miss Smallwood in there, maybe Jones might add some solidity? The worry is what is our level? The first game against Gillingham we caught them a bit cold, having not played for 6 months, and they seem to have gone on an improved. The others are all division 2 sides who came up, and Fleetwood was the first side in Division one that was up to speed, and we got played off the park in the 2nd half by all accounts. I guess the next 2 or 3 games are going to be telling! Is it a bump in the road as McCann says or are we not at the level we have been lead to believe?
Yep we missed the captain's aggression, leadership and experience, who's idiotic decision was it to play him in a tin pot cup when we have no direct like for like replacement? Service to the front players was almost non existent, we played 20 yards too deep, also an inability to keep the ball was evident. We've picked up points, but I've yet to see a dominant performance this season! His players, his team, his tactics, well done Terry, sooner he goes the better.
I think you are near spot on with this bit. Not 'always' but 'often' though. That was what was happening last night ..... and once again McCann unable to adapt and counter it. Out thought by Barton, outfought and outplayed by their players. McCann's options are limited, due to the insistence on buying to fit his / their beloved 4-3-3 and this utterly bizarre avoidance of bringing in experience & steel. However, he did have 3 battlers on the bench in Coyle, Slater (a young lad but with a reputation) and Jones. He did have options to change it around, to put more in midfield, to try to take control of the midfield. And with Coyle, I don't mean taking off Emmanuel, our best player on the night - both he and Coyle can play in midfield. He didn't do this though. We are hamstrung by McCann's ineptitude and by our restrictive recruitment approach. Not saying we haven't brought in some decent prospects, we have; but the balance is still wrong, not so much in terms of positions unfilled but in terms of balance of youth & promise v's experience & steel. Some (more) odd comments from McCann to the media: -> ... I think we’ve beaten ourselves and we didn’t see that coming. Nope. Barton beat you hands down. Fleetwood played well, fair play. You should have seen it coming, that's your f'in job. -> “One thing I said to the players after the game, I think this will be a bit of a reality check for some of them," Nope. A reality check for you and Enob. -> This is the first bump in the road for us and I’m sure there’s going to be many more Oh great. Mr Motivator. What an odd message. However, with McCann in charge, I fear he's right.
As with last season I do believe we have a enough in this squad to mount a serious challenge .. the sad part is they are being stifled by the tactics employed .. the defensive frailties have been there since this bloke took charge which speaks volumes. It appears he just doesn't know how to coach properly. His stubborn use of a system that still doesn't suit what we have is mind boggling tbf despite him recruiting them. We are exposed every game through our midfield getting over run .. and yet he goes with the kamikaze style .. which doesn't even reap the goals he thinks it will. I say again .. while this bloke is at the helm we are going nowhere .. the longer we stay in this division the harder it will be to get out of it. What is needed right now is a manager/ coach that has the ability to organise this shower into a performing unit. His tactical naivity is there for all to see .. how many times has he been out though by opposing managers. Get rid of him and we will see an immediate improvement and a bunch of players that work as one unit and a team.
the main reason he was given the job is can be out-thought - in fact he appears incapable of thought - it was evident from very early on that we were getting over-run down the left, it should have been changed immediately - it wasn't and it kept happening time and time again - he needs to go - we have some good players and we should do well with a decent manager - this guy's not up to it - last season was embarrassing, Wigan was the worst and last night was demoralising - i really cant think how low we need to go before he thinks it's time to **** off
Wonder if Swanny wishes he had not written his article why The owners were right to keep McCann? He was shown up again last night.
We have extra centre backs who DO want it, thats just it. If JDW is sulking because he didnt get a dream pay cheque to the USA or its too cold for Burke... get them the **** out. Also.... Elder... last season he was excellent for games then for so reason went AWOL.... I would rather watch Hull City with young lads busting to play. Did anyone note Callum Jones wasn't even in the squad last. night.... injured...?
