Anyone seen anything of Tyler Roberts as he seems to have gone missing again..... Phillips steady away again, but this is very poor from Roberts again
Thought Roberts had a solid first half hour on the right hand side. He's been a bit isolated up front since with Wales being on the back foot. Don't think he has been the worst player. Hasn't exactly worked up a sweat again. Kalvin has been steady. A bit too safe at times. He has grown in to the game again. He's not done anything wrong but he hasn't been eye-catching either. A very Batty-esque performance. Alot of sideways and backwards stuff. He played one lovely ball across the field early on and intercepted a pass and set Ings on his way in the 2nd half. Other than that very safe!
I did put my son to bed so maybe. For the first goal? If we are counting that then I suppose we better count the corner that Ings eventually scored from.
Well done Elland you jinxed them. The euros are going to Dublin and the paddy's have no interest in it, I'm gutted no I am.
Have to disagree with you Doc on Tyler Roberts. 100% get your frustration but let's give him 2 more years to become the player we all want him to be. There are definitely signs of a quality player in there somewhere and given the cost of recruiting even an average PL striker these days it has to be worth giving him the extra time to develop.
Would he benefit from a loan spell away. He’s likely to get less and less game time with us which will hardly help him develop
I get why you say this Jammy and can see people now comparing me to LL on Phillips. I wont mention him again but by your reckoning we will have waited over 5 years for him to get his act together, he’ll be then 23 and that would make him a real slow burner. Its not just me, its most people who watch him mark him as a 4 or 5 which is a stand out as everyone else is usually 7,8,9. Bielsa is obviously more patient than me
Morning Eire. My feeling is Tyler needs to play at the highest level to develop in the way he needs to. That also means training with top players and being coached by someone like Bielsa, Pep, or Klopp. It will mean less game time but feel 20 mins in the PL is worth so much more than being on loan at an EFL club where he can make slower decisions and still look good.
I've been critical of Tyler as well Doc. Maybe where we differ is that my feeling is he hasn't been able to nail down his role in the team. Phillips for example has been given some very specific instructions from Bielsa on where and how he wants him to play and has thrived due to that. Roberts on the other hand plays two roles and seems to mix up the requirements for each at times. That's probably why a lot of fans prefer him as a striker where his mistakes are not as costly when he loses either the ball or his man higher up the pitch.
Roberts just doesn't have that awareness to play in midfield. He doesn't see the danger quickly enough and that second extra he takes to comprehend what's happening leaves him 5 yards out of position and the defence massively exposed. In his defence he makes intelligent runs in behind defenders, can hold the ball up, has a nice touch and can pick a pass. He probably needs to work harder and maybe not dwell on the ball too much. He played well on the right last night.
I was only teasing Doc, you just seem to have a bee in your bonnet about him. My view is he has obvious talent, but hasn't been able to consistently influence games in the manner i hoped he would. I think also that, his on field demeanour counts against him for some - don't know how faair that is... I'm sure bielsa wouldn't tolerate laziness or attitude problems in his squad. Playing in the 10/free role demands risk taking and playing the killer pass... There will always be errors. I love pablo... but his pass completion rates are poor relevant to other positions... and i've seen him have games that are so bad it's hard to think to imagine someone of his calibre being so sh*t. But he has a lot of well deserved credit in the bank... and Roberts doesn't.
