Prior to my last job I read loads, but for the past 30 odd years part of my job involved skim reading reports, minutes and instructions. Now I find it difficult to read a book and need to keep turning back to read what I have missed in the previous few pages..

When I was reading, Wilbur Smith was my favourite author.

Havnt read a work of fiction since school. (I'm 40). Prefer to read knowledge. I could start opening Wikipedia and read about the Franco Prussian War, then an hour later notice myself reading about Venus Fly Traps. How I get there I do not know.

I'm like that. Unless I am engrossed from the off I tend to struggle with my concentration when reading. Thats why I didnt bother revising for my exams. Tried it once. Instantly forget what I just read, not interested. Relied heavily on my long term memory.

Be handy if I could read properly. Old Marlowe in the Big Sleep is there but under adventure, not crime which was where I'd expect to find Chandler.

From the list that emerged from the link I'll have read maybe a quarter, but I didn't count them.

Not as avid as I used to be, but I'll still normally have two on the go. It used to be at least three, sometimes four, as long as they were sufficiently different. But I had nowt to do then!

Currently, it's Amos Towel's " A Gentleman In Moscow" and "Alistair Cooke's America" . Both exceptional, as, by the way is the one I've just read for the second time; Anthony Doer's " All The Light You Cannot See". Best I've read in ages this one.

Read ten of them. But that includes narnia, lord of the rings and the disc world books.

currently working my way through the Reacher novels which are very good.

also been reading the Harry Bosch novels by Michael Connolly - they are excellent reads.

    Someone mentioned 'guilty pleasures'.

In literary terms, a thing I miss is the release of a new Harry Potter book.

They tended to come out at Midnight on Fridays, my night out.
On these nights it would be ----
    Leave The Club atb 11.15
    Walk to ASDA
    Join the Harry Potter queue
Wait for the witching hour of MIDNIGHT.
    The sale begins.
Recieve my new book at about 12.10.
Walk home, get there at about 12.30
    Start to READ.

    Ahhh Nostalgia.

Fair one. I was so enraged with Jilly Cooper that I obviously didn't read the list properly!!! I've also found Dickens now I've read it properly! I can read, honest!!!!!

Of Mice and Men being missing is still a travesty.

Love Michael Connelly's style of writing.. The Bosch TV series was pretty good too and Connelly was one of the producers.

They're making a new Reacher series for Amazon I think it is, cast this bloke called Alan Ritchson

    C1634BDD-16B6-4FAB-8AD5-EB71BE4F3079.jpeg

6 foot 4 and 235 pounds so a lot more fitting than Tom fecking Cruise. Seems a popular choice so hopefully he can do it justice because the source material should make for a cracking show.

    Thank god for that..

Tom thumb cruise, they have to dig a hole for his leading ladies to stand in when they are next to him and nobody is allowed to run faster than him in a scene

All of the Potter, Rings, Hobbit, etc things are identical ....

... same plot, same characters, same imagery.

It's James Bond but in the Middle Ages.

It was strange casting, seemed to be a case of cast the biggest name they could get and bugger any kind of faithfulness to the books. I'm sure they made money out of it but it's not the right approach.

My understanding was that Lee Child was not too happy about it, but given a shed load of cash he shut up

    On a scale of 1 to 10. I'm a 2.

I have a degree in Chemistry, a decent job and think of myself of average intelligence, but I've never enjoyed reading. Although I have read autobiographies etc from time to time.

I'm just too much of a get from A to B as quick as possible person and struggle to enjoy the journey in between.
