I can understand that thinking but personally i feel that if we use this period wisely (which i admit we haven't to date) and set good solid foundations we'll be better off in the long term.

Think that people seem to miss the big picture which is if your owners take out large loans using the club and its facilities as collateral that is what causes problems as loans need to be repaid. However if owners want to invest money into their asset ffp also deems this the same as a loan. No other business model does this apart from Football. So in effect they limit how you can expand your asset and police who is at the top of the tree (man utd Barcelona real Madrid etc) whilst trying to punish teams investing to reach the top ( psg man City etc) not sure how it should be monitored but it needs to be better than it is as salary caps and restrictions are not the answer as it stops larger clubs from using disposable income to expand and improve their asset. Disagree. 2 successive promotions. Don't spend any money. Get relegated. Parachute payments. Build a stronger championship team ready for another crack at the promotion. Wallop!

I've never understood this dislike of League 1. Yes, SAFC are too big for League 1 but football is still football. We'll be promoted eventually but for the moment (and when we're allowed back in grounds), it's the opportunity to see something different. And as hard as it is to swallow, the club is where the team's performances have taken it.
I get as much enjoyment from watching the Isthmian League as I ever did from watching the Premier League.

I think you've just put into words how I've felt for the last 5 years or so. Constantly striving for mediocrity sucked the life out of football for me.

I'd have no problem having a decade of carefree seasons in the championship. Flirting with the playoffs. Being in the Premier League was miserable. Even though we are at our lowest, in many ways I'm a happier supporter now than I was then.

There is different rules if relegated after only 1 season I think, you only get 2 years worth of parachute payments and if you get re-promoted obvs that stops

  9. Exactly. I want to see committed, skilful players enjoying themselves playing exciting, entertaining, attacking, winning football for us as fans to enjoy.
That's what it's all about. Of course, you want to be doing it at the highest level, but there is no pleasure playing at the the highest level,if you're not seeing any of that and simply witnessing a complete and utter total inability to compete. Soul destroying.

  10. I wouldn't say there was any way I was happier now than then. We are currently in the worse **** than we've been in certainly in my memory.
However, if we get the news we're all hoping for and our prospects for the future suddenly look very bright, with well funded and intelligent leadership, the current misery will be worth it.

Cant see being to do any decent planning in League 1 with this salary cap. I agree with the sentiments but would prefer to be in the championship whilst formulating a plan.

Sorry i just dislike turd division football... imho it is just not the beautiful game.

In fact due to poor refs and more sh it housery plus lack of skills by players, clogging give it a punt upfield (parky).. it is often boring. As someone may have said it is not dissimilar to S Shield or Spennymoor standard.

Its not far above the quality of women's football, and its not far off.

So as we are not in attendance at the SoL.

On the TV in no particular order I have been watching the alternatives, Rugby, cricket (ipl atm) and of course golf.

Aussie no rules and gaelic football is not bad either.

Quite surprised you say it’s above the quality of the women’s football?

  15. So am I. I haven't watched a huge amount of it,so must qualify my opinion, but from what I have seen I've seen better on a park pitch on a Sunday morning.

Agree.I remember the time before last when Burnley went up, spet nothing and went straight back down, the were promoted the following season, apparently from the off, their chairman came out and told the fans they'll be spending no money as the riches of the premier league were enough to keep the club financially solid. Fans were on side because they were told the truth from the off. So in 2 season they had Prem money, followed by parachute payments then another batch of premier money then the massive equal slice of the TV money. For some reason that was voted out and back to the old way of the higher you finish the more you get. Effectively keeping the rich clubs rich. You have to get to the PL any way you can otherwise you end up down the pyramid and stay there.

I suppose I'm a bit like you. I want to be proud of my team and be able to look people in the eye when they take the piss and tell them how wrong they are. I want to watch good passing football that gets me on the edge of my seat and actually enjoy the game for a change no matter what division we're in.

You little :emoticon-0130-devil you. Certainly not as skilful as the top country teams. But if it was women v men, the men can have less skill but more pace and power. I recall Serena Williams saying she in no way could compete with Andy Murray.

In the dim and distant past I used to help coach a women's rugby team and if they had a big game coming up would get then practising against some men, just to toughen them up.
