Couldn’t quite sustain his run to the line. Which is exactly what happened in his trial tbh. In Swoop finished in front of him that day too. Amidst all the post mortems about the British runners, I actually think the best horse won on the day.
Stradivarius was always just a dart being thrown and you could see early on this season that Enable wasn't close to been the same horse.
Not sure why they ran Straddy. The obvious reason was that with his decent form over 12f and his guaranteed stamina on soft, a stamina test on heavy ground would play right into his hands. Why Peslier was content to dawdle along at a pace that made it impossible to win is anyone's guess. Enable wasn't happy on the ground, boxed in all the way, got knocked about from both sides and once Franky could see she couldn't win there was no way he was going to put her into a fight for a place, and rightly so. Disappointing but at least she goes into a happy retirement and hopefully will have some lovely foals that we may see on the racecourse one day
Yes, Archers, the best horse did win on the day, but he was a very unpopular winner on the forum for some reason or other. I have no idea why. Seems my rare winning selections, e.g. Arc winner Sottsass, and Ghaiyyath are unpopular, the latter often vilified by some on here. Had to laugh at the glee shown by some on the forum when he went down at the Curragh recently. He is still a damn good racehorse though, IMHO. His emphatic successes in the Eclipse and Juddmonte were no flukes.
What a shame Coolmore have a 50% share in the horse...they basically control so much of the game but anyhoo.. He was an unpopular winner with me but thats only because I backed In Swoop...
Sottsass wasn't unpopular with me Swanny. I thought he had a good chance if the pace wasn't too hot. My disappointment was that 2 jockeys allowed their horses to run at a pace that gave them little/no chance of winning.
I dont buy the ground excuse for Enable, shes been a monster on soft her whole career, albeit not quite as soft as it was in this Arc but horses who handle soft generally as well her dont suddenly run no race because it got extra soft, it doesnt explain her run imo. She had no kick just like in the Eclipse on fast ground, she didnt need one in the King George, where she only had to stay on past a rapidly weakening pacemaker or at Kempton against handicappers. I think its quite simply a case of time catching up with her, shes danced most dances for a long time now at the top level, very few horses are asked as much these days and shes had enough. The best English filly of the last half century id imagine, her CV is practically unrivalled in the history of racing, although she wont trouble the best in terms of ratings, her consistency at the top level has only really been matched by Frankel in recent times. She banged out high 120s runs time after time on different ground at 10f and 12f. Shes in the top three fillies with Zarkava and Treve for me in my time watching racing.
