I thought he was excellent today. His distribution was superb, a number of throw outs got us on the offensive straight away and made them struggle to track back. Much as i liked Bo he held on to the ball for a ridiculous length of time after catching it. One throw out Basso did to Koren in the first half was a real defence into attack moment. Any news on his injury, hope he is going to be ok. Oh and he had no chance for their goal. Great strike.
Sorry thats just bollocks. He was in the right place, no goalie stands on his line. It was a perfect shot, thats all.
Love Basso, he does come off his line but all great keepers are guilty of that, just shows keenness, last thing you want is him glued to his line. Saw Schmeichel, Seaman many times caught off their line, Seaman was notorious for it.
Exactly. It's why we should have signed Marcus Hahnemann while he was still available. Are there any experienced keepers out there without a club? BTW, what was Basso's injury? I was working yesterday morning and didn't have a chance to listen.
Adriano basso is not injured, i was speaking to him yesterday and he said he didn't ask to come of and he is fine... Nigel might have done it to give him the standing ovation he deserved he is definately not injured though
Basso ahs really made the goalkeeping spot his own and is showing the consistency we saw in Mannone last season. I also feel Basso has helped bring the best out of Chester, Hobbs, Rosenior and Dudgeon too. In january we need to look at getting someone in as back up, Gulasci looks to shaky and isn't ready for football like the Championship.
He started hobbling around briefly when he caught the ball at one point but i think that was just a ploy to waste a bit of time that foooled the ref and also seemed to fool nigel pearson so he made a precautionary change!
It also struck me that sending Gulasci on, might have helped the Magyar, even though he was on for only a few minutes. What I mean, is that he definitely needs/needed a boost to his self-confidence......we might have to depend on him.
Spot on. Our young defense needed an experienced head to guide them. Defenses work as units, and this unit is prob best I have seen wearing a City shirt. As for Basso been in the wrong for been off his line is rubbish. No decent keeper hugs his line apart from free kicks, cuts down the angle and allows them to collect through balls or act as sweeper (something Riena does very well). Was a great instinctive strike
Wooooooh - Agree he shouldn't be "hugging his line" but he shouldn't be that far off it either. Watch the replays.... I stand to be proved wrong but if I was the Goalie coach I'd be showing the film and having a quiet word in his ear when he has a defecnce lined up in good position - just check your mark Basso. I think he'll get stronger and he could be one of our best of recent years. I like his confidence and communication - it will inspire more confidence in the players and fans. Good distribution as well. Great result - hate international breaks & looking forward to spoiling Gus Poyets great start. UTT.
A very experienced keeper, he reads the game well. I think he may get caught off his line every now and then - but that'll be the compromise for the many times he's out quickly to collect many a through ball. As for Saturday, 2 goalie's wouldn't have stopped that one.
Gulacsi's ineptitude has been exaggerated a little bit, he had one bad game at Leeds and one good game at Ipswich. I'm happy that Basso is playing but I'm sure Gulacis isn't as bad as people are making out.
i think Gulacsi is a bit nervous, probably wasnt quite ready to step up to first-team level for a club
