Milik Non-Watch
It's been suggested by Mateusz Borek, a Polish (duh...) journalist who's pretty well connected with various players' agents, why we looked set to sign Milik only to sign Vinicius instead

What they claim is that, rather than buy him, we hoped he would sign a an extension with Napoli and then we'd loan him for the season before buying him next summer, but Milik wasn't interested in that arrangement (although it's not been said if it;s the re-signing with Napoli part or the joining us part, but based on everything that's been said over the summer it's most likely the former)

he also explained that Milik's first priority was to stay in Serie A, but only Juve and Roma showed interest with Napoli's head honcho rejected Juve's interest, while Roma had a bid accepted and offered a three-year contract - with a clause saying they wouldn't have to pay his full wage in the second or third year of his contract if he got injured, hence he's staying with Napoli until at least January

 

Safe to say we won’t be signing Rodon before the 11pm deadline to register our Europa squad, lol.

Highly likely that Gazzaniga and Gedson miss out with regards to registration. A kick in the teeth for two players. One who’s seemingly been demoted despite not doing much to deserve it and one whose small chance of game time has further diminished.

Back onto Rodon though, I wonder if the club and/ or Swansea are thinking of getting CCV involved in any deal? He spent a season on loan there a couple years ago and I think it’d work well for all parties as we’d likely pay a lower fee, Swansea get an instant replacement without essentially spending money and CCV moves to a good club where he should get game time to ideally kick start his career.

 

I’ve seen that CCV theory mooted on Twitter but not by anyone I’d consider reliable.

 

Rodon would count as association trained (European homegrown), if he were to join.
I was wondering why everyone was suggesting that he wouldn't.
Davies was one of the last few players to get screwed over, as Swansea and Cardiff count as English now for those purposes.

The initial problem was Beijing Guoan entered negotiations in a strop due because Mousa Dembele was set to join them in January 2019 only to join Guangzhou R&F instead when the details started getting a little messy, which stalled negotiations from the outset as when we approached them directly they acted in a calm, mature manner by pretending that they weren't in the office at the time, and things only got started when we brought in a middleman

Finally, at the end of August, we offered a fee + options deal which Guoan accepted - but then Lazio made a bid, and Guoan once again stopped speaking with us, clearly hoping to get an auction going, and it was another couple of weeks before talks resumed

And this is ultimately where the deal fell apart: due to a combination of the Chinese window closing on September 30th (while the European one closed on October 5th) and our old friend the Non-HG allocation rearing its ugly head, we needed to free up a Non-HG spot in the squad before September 30th to sign KMJ and were unable to do so - and, of course, Guoan were about as helpful as a wasp that's downed a can of Stella and thinks you're taking the piss out of its stripes

It's also mentioned that we're willing to have a second crack at it in January, as KMJ wants to join us, so if Gazzaniga moved before then that would mean there's a possibility of getting things going once more

I don't like this sort of thing. It's totally unnecessary and leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
He could have easily praised the quality of his teammate without making it a Spurs/Swansea thing.
Just say that he's a very good defender and you think he'd cope well with playing in the Premier League.

Mourinho's done very well avoiding talking about other teams' players when we've been linked with them.
I think that we should follow that lead as a club.
It's something that most of our managers have been happy to do. The players should, too.

Looks like we were lucky the deal collapsed, as he could have potentially infected a few of our squad by now

 

Thing is if Rose had of left he could be playing first team football, but he seems so intent on running down his contract to prove a point the only person who is losing out is himself. By the time his contract is up he will be almost 31 with a year of training with U23's.

 

I think he’d happily leave to be honest, there’s just zero concrete interest in him. Which in a way is strange, he’s far from the player he was but he can still offer a lot to lower Prem clubs or some in Europe.

He’s definitely made some stupid decisions over the years but I don’t really hold any ill will towards him so I hope he can find somewhere in January. May even be worth his while if he took a half season loan to the Championship while the window is still open, will keep his fitness up between now and then.
