Bruce kept Sunderland up, but I'm told he's useless

He did reasonably well yes, but it's 2020 and the standards of coaches / managers has increased, so his level championship. there's a few donuts still at prem clubs that aren't premier league standard, but overall the standard has moved up greatly.

I agree he'd be lucky to get a start at a Prem club but he's more than capable of taking a Championship club up

Do you have amnesia or are you just being deliberately stupid?

He got sacked in November after such terrible results as beating Villa 6-0, Mackems 5-1 and winning away at Arsenal, and when we were in 11th place.

His "disaster" at Brighton is taking them into the top league for the first time in decades and securing 3 consecutive seasons there.

Don't agree that the standard has increased greatly, particularly for the mid-lower level teams, since Hughton, was managing in the Premier League, and a quick check of the managers then and now confirm that is the case.

Bottom line is though that there are only 20 Premier League jobs available, most of the ones he would be considered for only become available for a limited period of time (November - March), when struggling teams are looking to switch. I also think that he is less likely to be considered for those as, rightly or wrongly, he doesn't have the reputation for turning a club around short-term that a Moyes or Allardyce or Pearson might have.

Think his best bet of getting a PL job is taking a team in the Championship up as most promoted clubs don't sack a manager after promotion.

Well you're entitled to your opinion, but there's a reason he's at forest and it's because he's not considered good enough, so I will take comfort in that rather than take the level of abuse thrown at me on this thread... I look at the full picture rather than dissect tiny parts to an emotional decision. The coaching level has increased significantly imo in general I mean look at Brighton style of play it's come along way since Hughton was sacked for failing

Its a fine line - Brighton were not up to much last year and only finished a few points above the relegation zone. I agree they are playing an attractive style of play this year but they are still only on 3pts and the only game they have picked up points from was us. They have had a tough start but it will be interesting to see how they perform through the season.

I think the reason you get dogs-abuse is because you make statements like:

The coaching level has increased in general - look at Brighton.

You could just as easily say "the coaching level has decreased in general - look at Man Utd".

But don't take it to heart - the point of a forum is to debate topics and express opinions.

You think the coaching standards have improved in general - that's your opinion. Charlie Dogscock thinks you may have amnesia or are being deliberately stupid - that's his opinion. If you want we can do a poll on it to see which opinion is most favoured on here.

Regardless of what you've said since calling his stint at Brighton a disaster is ridiculous, he did excellently there.

As for the standard of coaching in 2020 improving.. ... really? So Lampard at Chelsea, Soljkaer at Man U and Arteta at Arsenal are improvements on Ancellotto, Ferguson and Wenger?

The likes of Villa, Burnley, Sheff Utd and Fulham have English managers who are no better than Houghton, and I'm sure Fulham fans would take Houghton as manager in a heartbeat.

I really don't see this massive improvement in coaching in the last few years, and Houghton could easily manager Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, Sheff Utd, West Brom, Southampton or us.

it doesn't bother me how many people disagree and tbh it give a me further confidence in my opinion.

nah he gave me abuse because he doesn't like my opinion and that's a sign of defeat in any debate
