The same people who were moaning about Manê giving every family in his hometown x amount because he can well afford it. The same moaners have probably never given a homeless person anything... ever.
BLM isn’t a political group. It’s basic human rights. You can’t get upset with a person or organisation wanting equality for all people
Why is it? Maybe it was asked for by BAME colleagues within a diversity group that have set up there?
Most big organisations and/or corporations have staff support groups, they are a great idea. However, the minute you say black only, you've separated one race from the others and that is the very definition of racism.
Not really. Racism prejudice of discriminatory behaviour towards a Group of people based on their ethnicity generally and belief that they have different characteristics that are perceived as inferior. I don’t think BAME staff setting up a BAME group falls into that all together. Now if it was a bunch of white people saging you guys need to go sit over there and have lunch in that side of the canteen, then sure. But having an online forum where they can safely discuss their issues without judgement and people who probably haven’t been through the same so can’t empathise with them is hardly racist is it. Cmon no ones getting hurt by it
BAME staff didn't set up a BAME group. An organisation set up a black only group. Nobody has to be hurt for something to be racist. How about we have black only shops and white only shops? No harm in that, right? People are people. We were all created equal. Let's continue on the path of seeing people as people not as a different skin colours. The minute you set up anything based on skin colour alone you are denying that person/those people their basic humanity. Striving for equality, funnily enough means seeing all as equal. Separating people by colour isn't helpful, it's divisive, patronising and a step backwards.
I haven’t actually read about it, so if I’m mistaken apologies. But you says BAME group didn’t set this up, but I doubt the CEO of Sainsbury’s decided to do it on his own. I imagine was a working group within a diversity team or project team, and I’d imagine that team would be made up of BAME employees? And you can’t compare having a black or white only shop, to a online forum for help and support ffs. It’s not separating them. It’s proving them a place where they can talk to others who may have been through sinilar experiences to them. It’s like Alcoholic goEs to AA so they can discuss with likeminded people. You wouldn’t ask an alcoholic to go to a wine tasting group to talk about their issues and problems they’ve been facing would you
Its not the group that is the issue, its the exclusion thats the problem. Issues such as racism, sexism, homophobia are not solved by excluding people from the discussion. By putting up walls between who is allowed to join or not. Bame only is no different from white only, you are differentiating by ethnicity and nothing more. Barriers are broken down by different people with different beliefs speaking to each other, not by everyone having their own little space.
It's dragging on, bored of it all but thankful that I'm at a point where there shouldn't be any complications. Still fatigued and coughing bit nothing more than that.
Can i just point out that i know of no way that Sainsburys can actually create a BAME only forum . They can set up a forum for BAME staff to discuss issues / experiences but i know of any way they could stop other people joining the forum .
