PL is for the first time in its history in financial trouble. Several major sponsors have pulled out and they have lost income through cancellation of tv deals. Knock on effect is that a lot of the clubs will now have to dash their costs. The house of cards is falling.
Would this be the same PL that’s just spent a collective £1.2BN on players? Which sponsors have pulled out btw? The only TV deal that went down was the Chinese one, which was the result of financial problems at the broadcaster, a new broadcaster has already taken over the rights.
The bread was a message to fans, but the helicopter and planes thing was probably coincidental.. How often do the reubans fly upto Newcastle? Probably quite alot.. I'm intersted to know why Ashley was up here though because it does seem odd he came here yesterday also. The Saudi plane to Luton? Could be for anything... How often do they fly into Luton?
David Conn was talking about it. He was also talking about the financial issues experienced by the EFL. EFL is in dire straits apparently.
A super agent suggested pif had been offering to pay money to the EFL... That was then suggested by an mp on bbc politics on Sunday morning
Yes, the EFL is up **** creek, they’re around £300m in the hole. The expectation has been that the PL should bail them out. The PL and the EFL have been lobbying Govt for assistance, but for the EFL not the PL.
The Saudis have the financial clout to rescue the lower leagues. The trouble is, if PIF ever took us over, they wouldn't be able to invest in the lower leagues. Arsmco on the other hand and a dedicated Saudi TV rights deal....
Yes, and the Championship collectively operate at an annual loss of circa £400m. But not all clubs contribute to this and in the lower leagues clubs they all largely operate within their means, their income has been completely devastated by the lack of matchday revenue. They’ll need a bail out to survive now fans attending has been further delayed, the only question is where it comes from. The suggestion has been that it comes from a combination of Govt help and the PL borrowing money on their behalf and them repaying it over a number of future years.
The Championship in its current guise is unsustainable. The worrying this is, the longer the covid pandemic goes on, the more we will see lower league clubs falling by the wayside. Non-league clubs are suffering massively .
Saudi investment in this country becomes more vital with the prospects of a real recession on the cards. Yes, they are a bunch of crooks, but so are the Americans.
The Championship is sustainable, clubs who are spending more than they earn are doing so by choice, and the losses covered by owners who are trying to get to the riches of the PL, it doesn’t have to be like that. EFL clubs will be bailed out imo, and so will survive this, it’s just who’s going to provide the cash and on what terms.
