Here's the thing: if he does slouch off this mortal coil, it will expose the flaws with America's electoral system

Long story short, if he does cark it, Pence can't stand as a candidate - because he's on the ticket as VP, and there's nothing in the Constitution or their electoral laws that give any kind of precedent for somebody dropping the "Vice" from their title, so even if Pence does get sworn in as Interim POTUS the election ticket will not have him as the Presidential candidate and it cannot be changed

What's potentially terrifying about this is that you know there's somebody somewhere who will try and say "Well the ticket says 'Trump'..." to try and get Donnie Jr, Ivanka or Eric on the ticket

    What about landlords, Rishi?

Between this and slashing Universal Credit payments, once again the "centrists" have once again been played like a fiddle just like they have with every other Tory MP they lionised

    Centrism. Not even once.

I don't think this is right. The popular vote in each state elects the electoral college and they could vote for another Republican if Trump had the majority of votes but was deceased. The states could pass laws obliging them to. If there is no majority in the College then the House elects the president from the top 3 candidates with each state delegation getting one vote.

There's actually precedent for the US electing dead people rather than change the ticket, with five people elected to Congress in spite their being six feet under (most recently Mel Carnahan in 2000 and Patsy Mink in 2002) and it happens with surprising frequency in state and mayoral elections

You'd think they'd have written a contingency after William Henry Harrison died thirty days into his presidency, but then you remember which country we're talking about...

I have heard commentators saying similar to Power here. The GOP can select a new candidate (doesn't have to be Pence) and his/her name can go forward. The votes already cast for Trump will stand and so there will be possibly no majority in the college if Republicans have more college votes but split between 2 candidates. However, each representative of the college can change the vote, not mandated to keep to the popular vote and switch from Trump to whoever. I agree it'll be messy though.

His base are conspiracy lunatics, though. If he dies from it, then they'll go nuts and find someone to blame.
I suspect that the election's not going to pass without violence as it is. If he croaks, then it's inevitable.

The CoE did the exact same thing that a bunch of other religious organisations has done? I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
Lock up some of the nonce protectors and you might see some action.

So, now that the Orange Overlord is out of hospital, shouldn't we be talking about that whole tax return thing?

East London has no water. Thames Water hopes to fix it at some point. Maybe.

And that doesn't make it a mainstream belief or indisputable.
He doesn't, though. Insulting the President is an offence in and of itself.
Erdogan didn't create it, but it wasn't enforced until recently.

The UN Security Council, General Assembly, International Court of Justice and EU support the view that Israeli settlements are illegal. They may not agree on how it was founded, but they agree that, in its current manifestation, it is (by definition) an illegal state contravening international law and the 4th Geneva Convention.

    And you know this how?

The settlements are illegal. The state itself isn't.
Iraq didn't become an illegal state when it invaded and occupied Kuwait.
Because some people are charged solely with insulting the President. Take this example:
    https://www.hrw.org/news/2018/10/17/turkey-end-prosecutions-insulting-president

No conspiracy, no terrorism, just insults and satire.

Have you read about when and how it was founded? To some, it may be a disputable point. It really shouldn't be to anyone who has read about it and understands right from wrong.

Fair enough. I didn't think they'd be that casual about admitting to it, when they know it wouldn't portray them positively, but clearly it's no obstacle.

Now you're suggesting not only that Israel shouldn't exist, but that Yossi Benayoun's a scumbag for not agreeing with you.
They don't care how it looks. It silences opposition to his dictatorship and there's nobody to stop him doing it.
