To be fair to Torres, he helped them win the Champions League and then also won the Europa League with them. A flop yes, but there have been much worse deals.
Yes, I suppose scoring 45 goals in 172 appearances is a slightly better return than Carrillo’s 0 from 10!
The best part is that most supporters could immediately detect that it looked like a bizarre signing, with no indication that he had the qualities we needed. Yet ‘professionals’ decided that it was a good move.
According to that Athletic article that dug into it, several of our recruitment team staff threatened to resign over the Carrillo signing. They knew it was wrong and pushed hard against it but were overruled by the leadership and head coach. A ****ing wild decision in hindsight and probably a key part of what lead to Les getting fired.
I genuinely believe some random FM addict could have been installed as Saints Manager at the time and outperformed Pellegrino.
He was so, so, so, so bad. Honestly what the hell were we thinking. Will never forget some of those games, and watching players that we knew could perform at Europa league level looking like sunday league players
I think Walcott would be a smart signing., Not overly commiting and can can cover RW/St position! We are in the midst of a takeover too, So we can bring in some stronger targets next year whilst we have the wages to allocate to the signings. We also have extra wages to affard giving to a certain key player..
This. We don't want to rush into signings now, just after we've cleared the decks of the dead wood. Walcott is a known entity, experienced and will at the very least push Redmond, Djenepo and Armstrong to perform. This allows the fabled black box team to identify potential signings for 2021 with a much better view of our financial allowances. With Carillo gone and Hoedt and Boufal to follow, this is a strong transfer window for the outgoings. The future's bright. The future's red and white
