The relentless media outcry over Lamela seems to be continuing, I am not defending his reaction to being mildly slapped, but I don't recall the media getting in to quite such a lather when Sonny was sent off for pushing the Bournemouth player who fell with similar ease, and who had twice attempted to do far more serious damage to our man. The retaliation by Son that day was stupid and punished accordingly the exact same thing applies to Martial.

You may not be defending Lamala’s actions, but I will. He was being an intelligent c@&#. Just as Mourinho spoke about. This reaction was no different to when Rudiger overreacted to Son’s ‘mild’ kick out. Son got the red and absolutely nobody, aside from Mourinho, called out Rudiger for overreacting. (I don’t particularly want Rudiger in our squad, as I’d imagine Son wouldn’t either, but don’t think that Mourinho isn’t aware of this ‘quality’ when considering who to bring in.)

I don’t like it personally, but it works. Other clubs do it, and win games doing it, but we somehow aren’t allowed to?

Either cut it from all of the games completely, or allow all teams including ours, to do it equally.

Lamela should also be praised for making the second goal by being an absolute c^%# in the penalty box, harrassing and pressuring all of the defenders to create the opportunity for N’Dombele.

Lamela is big match player some of his best performances have been against top 6 teams he must an absolute **** to play against and I am in complete agreement regarding ' the dark arts' and there are times where we do need the win at any costs mentality which Lamela definitely has.

God, that was an utterly terrible indefensible performance by the boys. :(
Oops, sorry, I am not a Man Utd supporter.

even a player like Harry Kane can be improved it seems

He’s still scoring but now he’s providing too and it’s improving him as a player and us as a team. Always thought he was too head down the last 2 years...I honestly believe too many p,Ayers were given free reign to call the game as they want by Poch. Now it’s team first...team pride not individual pride.

    Next up

Jose to ruin the club like he did with United when he left.

He has carried thru all the traits I saw in his U23 2012-13 season.
The assists he has got this season are just reflections of the
generally selfless / team-aware play he showed back then.

    I loved it.

Spurs are never gonna be a club that gets the media darling support like Pool/ Utd so we might as well give the media and other clubs more reason to hate us. I’ve never really been someone who cares how universally the club is liked by non-Spurs fans anyway.

As for Lamela himself, I still think he can be improved upon from a squad perspective, can’t fault the guy’s commitment to Tottenham as it really does seem like he loves the club and he’d take a bullet for us but we all know - and Jose has more or less confirmed it too - that he can’t feature in games in quick succession and he also does blow hot and cold over a season too. He’s in a hot streak at the moment but history tells us he'll suffer a bad patch at some point. The inconsistency and injury proneness has been really problematic for us over the years because there’s been times where we’ve needed him and he’s not been available and/ or not been good enough. That said, with Bale’s arrival and there seemingly enough space in the squad to still accommodate Lamela, it’s not a terrible option to have, he really can be a great player at times, and a great ****house too.

Very well said. I don't condone his action at all (maybe other fans are assuming we do?) But I do want consistency.

Another aspect of consistency would be to condemn other forms of cheating. For example when players dive in the box without having been touched. How about Abraham for Cheski's third / first pen? Why isn't that as bad, why hasn't that been discussed? Arguably it's even worse because Lamela (over)reacted to something that actually happened. If a player dives he often isn't reacting to anything at all, he's setting up the situation himself. Let's see some outcry over that for a change (and outcry against teams/players that actually get pens for doing so).

Over reacting was essential yesterday...we were at Old Trafford

did Moura over react? No...hence Shaw didn’t get his well deserved Red card

Pogba could easily have seen red for what he did to Højbjerg as well.

Still can’t get over Hojbjerg’s performance tbh. Honestly one of my favourite individual performances from a player in a long, long time.

We see Kane and Son destroy defences on a regular and they’re having to do that a lot lately as our CBs are absolutely abysmal and leaking goals but there’s something about a dominant midfield display that just hits the right notes for me. That was a 10/10 from Hojbjerg, the fact that - for me - he was head and shoulders above any other player on the pitch when so many other Spurs players were excellent tells you how good I thought he was.

I had my doubts about him but he’s steadily gotten better in recent games and yesterday was just a monster of a performance. It’ll be hard to replicate that most weeks but if he can keep up the mopping up of loose balls and allowing more freedom to the attacking players, he’s gonna be a big player for the club. Also wouldn’t surprise me if he’s quickly promoted to a vice captain and takes the armband if Hugo and Kane aren’t in the XI.
