A few CEO’s of football clubs throughout the league are being interviewed on Radio 4. The Premier League CEO is claiming that they can’t really afford to pass money down the pyramid, as they are suffering so badly themselves The CEO of Huddersfield Town says they are in trouble - 11,000 STs sold , fans wanting refunds etc. It doesn’t occur to a lot of these Premier League clubs (possibly because they are now foreign owned) that they benefit directly from the well established English football pyramid.
The Premier league clubs don't care about what happens below the Premier league. I was listening to the Brighton CEO and he said that they would like to help but they can't afford to. I really thought that transfer fees and wages would get more realistic post covid but fat Frank has spent over 200 million in transfer fees and God knows how much on wages.
The Porn magnate David Sullivan at West Ham said the same. They are still paying off their previous Chilean manager a £6m pay off after he abjectly failed. West Ham also paid £45m for a guy called Heller who never plays, and Felipe Anderson £100,000 a week to do nothing. But the likes of Macclesfield Town can go hang.
We all know that SKY don't give a f**k about the lower league clubs because greed cancels out compassion. The question is, who else cares a f**k. Do owners, players and fans sit in the pub or round the executive table and shed tears over what's happening beneath them. The answer is no, because the "i'm alright Jack" attitude is one of percieved survival, when the truth is that without us less important minnows there is actually no survival. Those in the top flight seperate football from all other business structures and pretend there is no need for manual workers.
I still don't get why a percentage of fans can't get into games. Charlton has 27500 seats. If you let in say 7000 or 8000 in four stands they can be spaced in accordance with guidelines. Also masks can be worn. How is it safer to let people into Pubs, especially closing at 10.00 where people congregate outside without masks.i was horrified to see the amount of people, mostly Students, outside a pub in York. Football Clubs are dying they need to be thrown a bone.
It’s the congregating before & after that’s a problem. Charlton station is a bottleneck at the best of times.
It is said that over 90% of all infections occured in the home because of the multiple infection factor, and when considering that demos never upped the figures it seems a little too carefull to ban outside gatherings.
Just heard that Premier League clubs spent £100m on transfers yesterday. One must have been Man Ciry signing from Lyon. £55m. Not sure who the other was.
A 1%, or even 0.1% levy on all Premier League transfer fees over the summer would have gone a long way.
@The mighty Elfsborg you will be relieved that you are not drinking at the moment - going into the pub & ordering a pint & a meal has become a Sudoku - like experience. What makes it worse is that it’s not all pubs. A couple that we kno, you can walk in and order no problem. Others have set up systems of baffling and OTT complexity, I have experienced - staff with walky talikies at entrance being ordered to a certain seat Separate bars for drink & food Meaning the drink comes after the meal Being rebuked for not following the one way system for walking around the boozer Best of all - not using the pub entrance as an exit, when it is one.
Possibly a glimmer of good news? The 'rule of six' might just be beginning to have an effect; https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54366478 Apparently the 'R' number is going down, which means the infection rate is still rising (as 'R' is still over 1) but the rate of rise is slowing - not rising exponentially.
Maybe he's been listening to his brother Piers, who was arrested after organising an anti-lockdown demo.
Dork of the Day (and candidate for the 'Dominic Cummings' Selfish Moron Award) ... The SNP's very own Margaret Ferrier https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-54394780 How has this woman not resigned as a Scottish MP yet? Beggars belief.
Respected posters choose forums where respect is in the upholstery. Welcome Landlord, you have a strong vibe.
4th October stats update; The second wave is well established in three countries. Spain appears to be getting its infection rates under control again, though fatality rates are still relatively high. France is recording well over 10,000 infections per day on average, with little sign of winning that battle. The UK is also recording very high daily infection rates (second worst after France). Fatalities still relatively low, but for how long? Germany still has a lid on things, as (remarkably) does Italy.
Smokers are seriously under represented. Covid doesn't like nitric oxide, or that nicotine stimulates the immune system, and gets seriously pissed off with a lung full of hot air. Start smoking now, and reduce your suffering by a factor of twenty..
