Awfully cool of our defense to make sure that McCarthy would be totally untroubled by having any red shirts within 15 yards on that setpiece. Glad the ball reached him and not one of the 5 WBA players that were onside.
Just now he ambled into a challenge he was favourite for. Before that we’d gone done the right for most attacks. The one time we went left he got in behind and unfortunately over ran it. not sure what else you’ve seen, as it’s all been in the right.
I agree he has that - we’ve seen it before - but not in the Burnley match and not here so far. Not saying he is a waste of space full stop - just that there is something far too reserved about his game right now
A lot better than he is. He’s defensively absent. I will forgive that if he gives us anything going the other way
I think he’s been told to release the ball more and not try to take everyone on. Which is the right thing. But he’s hardly had a chance to shine as yet, and I thought he was decent against Burnley.
Drop a note in at half time and tell them to give him the ball then. How can you slaughter him as you have, when we haven’t come down that side. If he gets lots of the ball and fncks up, then fine but why not wait for that. Seems you just looking to dig him. Armstrong on the other side has been poor with his passing... any negativity for him?
Fair enough. It’s all part of it to have differing views. He didn’t do anything particularly wrong against Burnley but for the role he was playing I think Smallbone would have offered more. He literally came back inside every time and literally never commited a slow right back who was on a yellow. I agree I think he’s been coached that. I think that risks losing the spark and unpredictability of his game. In this game I think we are playing well but Djenepo is nothing to do with that whereas every single other player is. Think we would be even more threatening with a different option to him right now. Imho
