CHEAT. We should call out these players for what they are. How is this not immediately obvious to VAR? Never mind, there's always Spurs players (who never get penalties) to call divers. Also don't expect the pundits to pick up on this.
Both Chelsea “penalties” were absolutely nothing and both ridiculously played for with barely any contact. To see them given straight away, and Michael Oliver couldn’t wait to give them, just sums up everything that is wrong with modern football.
As per that Gerrard penalty from years ago " the intention was there " absolute rubbish then and rubbish now
The rule actually does state that attempted fouls are free-kicks, but the defender's not trying to foul him there. He goes for the ball, misses it and Abraham just chucks himself over his leg. What's the point in VAR if they're still getting simple things wrong every week? They're ****.
The first one is soft, but I would want that given if it was on our player, (it probably wouldn't be), the 2nd one is a penalty all day long Sakho is just far too late with his challenge.
There is no contact, how have VAR not seen this? They can not be this incompetent, so it must be bias and corruption.
I hear Sterling has been diving again in the Leeds match (well done Leeds by the way). It's not just the cheating, but certain players never get punished for diving. So they either get a pen or don't face any consequences. Surely this just encourages them?
I don’t want to be seen as a typical Spurs fan moaning how it’s so unfair etc etc but that is a complete joke that VAR confirmed it was a penalty. I wish VAR would bloody well call Michael Oliver out and say that it wasn’t a penalty rather than always go along with the referees clearly wrong call.
This is the problem: VAR in the Premier League has rapidly become a game of "I won't highlight your ****up if you don't highlight mine" between the refs, which will only be solved by one of two radical approaches i.) Use a third party for the VAR, as happens in the World Cup ii.) Replace the entire pool of Premier League referees, so there won't be a mates club watching each other's backs
I totally agree, VAR should never have been manned by the refs from the same panel of people as the on field refs. Even if they used to retired old refs though if Peter Waltons opinions on BT are anything to go by they would be as bad the current crop. So overseas refs is the way forward.
I'm curious if they have similar issues in La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 or the Eredivisie ...although given there's an awful lot of tweets about Ruddy Bucket from the other night that mention VAR from last season, I'm going to assume there's teething troubles in Ligue 1 too
