I had been aware of them before, but as a hapless bunch of drugged-up indie/funk crossover chancers. Credit should probably go to the remixers (Vince Clarke on this 12" single version I think rather than the cooler Paul Oakenfold or Andrew Weatherall), but either way it changed my perception of them completely.
Have to be 18 to work in there now. No hanging around messing about nowadays and no unaccompanied under 16s after 6pm. Progress... Aren' t you glad you were young when you were?
Shame the lead singer got banged up. Had a few of their tracks at our wedding, always worth a listen when I’m on a down day. Still one of my favourite songs.
Stevie Winwood had just turned 16 when this was released, and may have still been 15 when it was recorded.
