Basically I've come to the conclusion the clubs business is done. It was a sly but cute move by Ashley to spend a small amount on premier league terms over a very short period.. He made it look big, but in reality it's the same bargain basement leftovers the othe clubs didn't fancy... 35 million reported 35 spent... Close the book for years unless the takeover goes through and that could be a year away if ever at all
Aye I think Smalling is decent and a year in Italy usually does someone no harm in defensive development. We'll get Mr Gurn no doubt

We've spent a bit of coin, papers have fuelled that, so agents are now touting NUFC as the de facto name on contract negotiations elsewhere. With Lascelles, Schar, Fede, Clark, Dummett and even Hayden/Krafth, if Bruce wastes anything on a CB, particularly one as useless as Jones, he should be shot.
We've spent next to nothing really..... Of you look at the first 11 on paper it's possibly worse at left back and better at cf, so it's been a waste of time... We've got an option or 2 from the bench that's all
I mean Wilson has as many goals in 2 games as Joelinton had in 38 last year so we are definitely stronger there, we haven't lost anyone from the midfield and got Hendricks and Fraser in and another LB which was probably my main complaint of the defence last year. Lost Lejuene for the year but that's about as good as last year anyway. I'd say we are a stronger squad than last year but Bruce hasn't done anything for this team in 18months but drag it backwards almost forcefully...
I think there was a lot in the comments from Shelvey about lumping it forward and the manager wanting them "to play". He was so vague I got the feeling there was no clear direction from the manager and it's almost entirely down to the players to work it out. Was supposed to be a barely-disguised dig at Rafa (likely on behalf of the manager), but I read more into it. There was an article years and years ago from Louise Taylor about Bruce being stuck in the 90's and nothing has changed. Every fan of every club he's been at has lamented his archaic "methods" and really he's just trying to do PL management as a bit of a laugh, fun with your mates, arm round the shoulder bullshit. The ex-player who said he'd just throw balls out and say "off you go then" is, I would imagine, desperately close to reality. The problem is for a couple of brainless clowns like Ashley/Charnley, that probably looks fantastic. Particularly when you throw in wheelie bin baths and tinpot training facility.
He just knows he's been playing **** and people want him dropped, so he's come out defending Bruce who plays him week in week out no matter how **** he plays.... Of course he wasn't picked by rafa, so he loves Bruce
I'll be fuming if we sign this lump. He's barely played for years. Total waste of a squad place and wages.
Thing is that if we get him Bruce will put him ahead of Clark in the pecking order who is blatantly a better player
