Get Kane and Lo Celso off. As much as Haifa have looked decent and energetic going forward, we've got to trust ourselves that we can see out a 3 goal lead and get those 2 off and resting.
4-1 HT. Sounds odd, but that was a very, very mixed half, for me. Great start, but Maccabi's pressing really troubled us and unsettled the defence. I don't think that we were expecting that and it took us quite a while to get back into it. Good job that we restored the lead so quickly after they equalised or it might've got messy. I expect them to fly out of the box after the break, so we need to shut it down and close things out. Another goal would kill it, but slowing things down and keeping the ball as much as possible might be better than goal hunting.
If we could just get the centre back deal done I think it will be the best transfer window I can ever remember! Even if we don’t it’s been incredible. I wonder if we will get any credit for doing some great deals and strengthening our squad on a very sensible budget. Or will all the headlines be about Pep and fat frank spending millions?
Gio looks knackered but is putting a shift in and Kane not far off the same. Wouldn’t mind seeing Alli for Kane at half time and Lamela for Gio not too soon after. Sissoko for Højbjerg at some point would be the last change I’d make as Pierre looks like he could clash with the ref at some point this game. It’s clear they’re better rested than us but it’s also clear we’re the better side, though they’ve been more adventurous than I thought they’d be. A bit of energy from Lamela and a rested Alli should help us keep the pressure on for the rest of the game. I can’t be alone in thinking either that Davies looks to have raised his game a bit since the Regulion news broke. Winks also having a decent game in midfield.
Actually thought Gio had been playing really poorly but then went and grabbed two goals. Quite a few players have given away sloppy passes, Sanchez’s being the worst albeit that was an amazing goal by them. Get Kane off, Gio too, if we **** up a 4-1 lead without them then the players need shooting.
