I’m very surprised more has not been written about the sparkling conference speech of the Libdems leader, Ed ‘interesting’ Davey.

I was riveted to hear that the LibDems believe in fairness.

well they’ve got my vote for that alone. Brilliant just brilliant.

I think they are in their constituencies, preparing for government.

(you have to be old to recognise that reference)

Can you believe there are 330 million people in America and these are the two it's come down to. Jesus Christ.

I watched it live and it was not a debate. There have been many descriptions of what people thought it was but the American voters deserve better than this.

At the moment in the US I don't really care for political views I'd just like someone competent. A president should be within the top 1% of intelligence in the country. That would still leave more than 3 million candidates. Instead we have Biden who looks to be at least 20 years past his prime and Trump who pretty obviously has moderate learning difficulties and is a prime example of the Dunning Kruger effect. Then again, half of Americans believe Noah's Arc to be a historical fact so the public really shouldn't be trusted.

It strikes me at this stage that it isn’t about what either of the two USA Nominees can offer the American citizen, it’s about which party can make the most mud stick on their opponent. You have to seriously question the mentality of the Average American that they fool for it time and time again.

I think Trump is a clown but I think he is better for the USA than Biden, just glad I don’t have to vote for either.

We'll differ on that one but as neither of us can vote. I wish my outtake had been a coherent plan for the future, from either party but my outtake was Trump saying "Proud Boys, Stand Back, Stand By"

It's a worrying development and risks the democratic norms in an election period, but that's just my view

we must have been watching different debates, OLOF. I saw a frustrated and angry Trump in a hurry to leave the stage as a defeated and beaten man. He couldn't lay a finger on Biden (whom, I may say, wasn't exactly a victor) but as someone who is trailing in the polls needed to 'win' this debate, and he didn't. A draw. OK, but that means he hadn't gained anything on his opponent, thus, he lost. I agree, the Mod wasn't in control of the proceedings.

Hi Bris, I guess you watched the ABC broadcast as well at 11.00. I don't really understand how a senior member of any organisation could behave in the way Trump did, let alone the President of the USA. He was rude, belligerent and downright wrong in so many ways but, I guess, that's what his supporters can relate to.

I had the misfortune of catching a few minutes by accident. It was perhaps the worst example of media coaching I think I’ve ever witnessed. I stared in bewilderment that anyone could think that such scripted, exaggerated speech and body language should ever be let loose on the public. There are Dover soles with more personality and Tory ministers with more convincing lines in sincerity. Unbelievable Jeff

It was 2 70+ year old men who should be sitting in their comfortable chair staring out of the window.
As was said above its amazing that these are the best 2 that America can offer.
It was an irrelevance because I cannot believe there is anyone who doesn't know which way they'll vote. This election is possibly even more polarised than the last one.

The joys of democracy... you don’t have to pass an iq test to vote

trump talks to the lowest common denominator - because that’s all he’s capable of and that’s where his votes come from.

Biden? Well you have to credit the democrats for making it a fair fight and standing up for pensioner’s rights.

We had corbyn v bojo, they have trump v Biden. As races to the bottom go - once you smack your head on the floor of the Mariana trench, where next?

I do take issue with your generalisation of Republican voters. There are millions of ordinary working Americans who will vote Republican. I do think either side would get more votes with a better candidate.
Trump clearly isn't a politician so the debate was Biden's comfort zone. Anyone who watched the Apprentice knows exactly what Trump is like.
I think many might vote for him because the alternative is unknown. How much influence does Sanders have? Will Biden last very long before being replaced by Harris?
Trump could be seen as safe hands
