Just the general theme of posts in the last few hours, yes. Everybody has felt a little deflated. Not saying everyone is, just how it feels. Definitely not feeling like #cans yet - and was struggling to understand why the poster I was replying to thought it was.
I really don't understand why people are so annoyed with Barnes. A commentator/journalist hears some info that takeover talks have started and they hope to get it done before season starts. So it hasn't for whatever reason. How is that Barnes' fault? If you are sat getting angry at Barnes because he said it would be done by now and it isn't then its actually you that had a huge problem not Barnes
Sorry, I might have missed something in the thread. Is there a hint of a new rumour related to Kuwait?
Totally agree, I just dont get the anger from fans over a respected reporter who is simply giving a view based on what he's been told.
Same people who are always slagging off posters who dares to try and share stuff they have heard Disagree by all means but it's the anger and down right abuse I can't understand Funny it's always the same people as well and they seem to get angry at everything
It's those people who laugh hysterically at the suggestion the club could ever be sold. The same people who post 'has anything happened' every single day. The same people who'd rather we weren't bought by a wealthy group than admit they were wrong. Sad little people who seem to do nothing but cruise the internet.
I've got no issue with Barnes. As you say he's been told something, likely from Donald or Methven and has ran with it. He'd have got criticism if he kept quiet and it came to light later that he knew something and didn't mention it. If you're hearing something from a director of the club you're likely to take it as read. My only slight criticism would be that he knows he's sparked massive interest but still seems to go for random one sentence replies to people. Some might just be his opinion, or they might be what he's heard and he never confirms . So this one today saying that "I doubt" it will happen at present due to the current climate; does he doubt it just because in his opinion Covid could complicate things, or does he doubt it because his source has told him that there's delays and issues? Being a commentator or a journalist, both rely on good communication so it's a bit frustrating that he's not good at it. Smug on here knows the importance of saying when something is your opinion and when it's something you've heard. If people are tweeting asking about the takeover I'd much rather a clear "I've not heard anything new, but I suspect it might be unlikely at the minute due to the current Covid situation", and I'd rather he didn't say "I hope to hear more in the next week" or whatever he said ages ago and then didn't give any sort of update. Think we're all just frustrated though.
I think it all depends how you read barns tweet, I read it as a reply to it being the end of the month, and him saying no it’s to soon because of the changes but hes still confident it’s going to happen,
Exactly - the question asked was "is the takeover still on track to be completed by the end of this month?" I don't think anybody could expect it to "complete" in the next couple of days. Even if Nick's dates meant anything (they don't) he only said he'd get more news by the end of the month anyway, not that it would be done.
For those who couldn’t be arsed to watch the video : When asked for further details about the other ‘partners’ involved in Storey’s attempts to buy Sunderland, Storey said: “In January I was having dinner with a good friend of mine who runs a restaurant group in London, he is a Sunderland fan. "We were talking about what was happening with the club. That intrigued me, that led to a conversation with Ellis Short. "He has pumped hundreds of millions in and [when he sold] wrote off millions of pounds worth of debt. "Short pumped a lot of money in but probably didn't spend it wisely, his heart was in the right place. "I spoke to Ellis, a top businessman, and he was very supportive and gave me background information about what was happening. "That gave me the confidence that I could move forward and I could add value to this club. “I then spoke to contacts of mine, one of the richest men in the Far East, one a major magnate in the insurance industry and some people who are very well known in the sports industry and City of London. "They could recognise I had the ability to take the club forward and I was fortunate enough that they backed me." Asked whether Sunderland AFC is a ‘sleeping giant’, Storey added: "Without question, it is one of the biggest clubs in the country, "It is the best club in the North East, the fanbase is fanatical, getting 30,000 in League One is phenomenal and testament to that. "In terms of loyalty and knowledge, and quality of fans, Sunderland are far and away the top club in the North East. "They deserve to be in the top table of English football, I hope it is with me and my team leading that charge." Earlier this summer Donald reaffirmed his commitment to sell Sunderland following a meeting with fan groups, before confirming his £37.6million price tag. William Storey, Mark Campbell and Sammy Yu are all keen but it was revealed last month that Donald was in a period of exclusivity with another party. There has been no further public comment since from Donald or the club, though it is understood Storey is not seen as a credible option. Sunderland has been officially up for sale since the start of the year, though twice last summer the club came close to changing hands with Campbell and the American FPP group holding talks.

Ive read about a Sunderland born restaurant owner in London not too long ago...been searching for the article / restaurant today but can I hell find it....theres definitely one down there who owns some restaurants
Yeah...he didn't want to talk about it too much, stating 1-2 week delay and finishing off with 2-3 weeks so that keeps my hope up, got no reason to doubt the fella
