After 26 years working at Sunderland Uni I am now on my last ever shift there. I have some great memories, worked with some great people ( as well as the odd bell end) and proud to have managed a brilliant set of lads and lass at this current time.
I worked in the Murray library IT dept from 2003 -2007. Was a canny little job but quite boring as there wasn’t much for us to do.
Haven't decided yet.. Iwill see how it goes in the next couple of months and then might contemplate a part time job..
Well done RAW, a big day for you, when I retired from the Police 25 years ago ( can't really believe it's that long) it was the end of March so had the summer off but took a variety of part time jobs since and I'm nearly 72 now and still working (only 12 hours a week) and I love it, gets me out the house and keep the grey cells active. Will retire again when I'm 75 as long as I can stay fit and will miss it terribly. So big decisions for you, take your time enjoy a break, if you can in these awful times and I'm sure you'll enjoy your ME time. Good luck.
The worst part of retirement for me was not having any fixed role. So I got rount to some long outstanding DIY. I became 'The Cleaner'. Almost anything to fill in time. Then the Family started to expand, Grandchildren appeared. The wife took early retirement and I suddenly found that there were not enough hours in the day. My tip. Keep busy doing something you enjoy.
Good luck fella. That's one hell of a service in the modern age. Enjoy your time off, and see you at the Academy in a couple of months
Was the poly at the time but that was my 1st ever job on there when serving my time as an apprentice electrician.
Good luck mate. IMO, you need something to keep you a bit active, I know you’ve got a dog (a cocker?) so that’ll help. I remember a few years ago when you were on about trying golf, did you do it? If not, I gave my son in law a full set and a bag, but he bought a new set. If he’s still got them and you want them, you’re more than welcome foc. We’ve just got back from Portugal last night, so have to quarantine for two weeks, but if you want them, we’ll sort something out Good luck in your retirement, I don’t miss work a bit!
If you need owt during your quarantine period....just yell mate. Working from home now so can help if needed
Best thing you will ever do mate I am just about finished all the work I had on before lock down and then I’m done.
Good luck Mr RAW. I retired from Royal Mail in 2008 after 36 years. Travelled for a couple of years, moved house then got bored. Took a job in care as a community co ordinator doing assessments and reviews. Love doing it and along with gardening and walking my dog keeps me well occupied
