I do largely agree with you, although I would temper that with a reminder that the national press likely won't give a **** and the local press are useless! I've said for ages, the local press should have been proper digging into things at the club for years. The whole use of parachute payments to purchase the club, did Ellis know that's how they were going to fund it or did he expect to leave us with 2 years of payments? FPP the first time, why did it break down, why the loan, might they still buy us. Even now with this takeover talk , is there any truth, dig around to try and find who is backing Storey etc. Instead they've done nothing, so I don't take a lack of info in the local press to particularly indicate that nothing is happening! I suppose if it was Fuhrman or FPP (or just Sartori and Methven) there wouldn't necessarily be many leaks if lessons were learned from last time.
To be fair they did mention it early on, there probably just hasn't been any major updates since so they haven't followed up on it https://www.skysports.com/football/...eneur-william-storey-launches-bid-to-buy-club
Sky have been asked not to report and the local papers said early on its best not to report on these things until its over as a lesson learned from last time.
Keith has basically come out and said aswell he won’t be reporting on it because it’s best these things are played behind closed doors, The ones usually played out in the press is tactics from the buyer or seller
What loyalty do Sky have to anyone at Sunderland, and Dave Jones is is a employee. It’s not Real Madrid we’re talking about here, it’s a league one team. I find it hard to see why Sky wouldn’t want to report on anything. And I’m sure a local paper would love the ‘scoop’, even the odd tweet or something, but it’s literally radio silence
So that would suggest WS. Or if it’s some one else why do they want it to be so secretive. It’s well documented that the fans want SD out, come out (like WS, and get the fans on your side). Put the pressure on SD to sell, and probably get it for a lower price as you have the fan momentum behind you. This is what WS is probably aiming for but it’s seriously backfired
The silence is amazing I have to admit but thats from the club as well who you would think would be up front if nothing was happening. To be fair on sky we aren't exactly a major story so I reckon they would respect Jones on that one particularly if breaking the news would jeopardise it like last year.
I agree about Sky. I think the issue is likely that there's nothing official about who might be looking to buy us, and they're not likely to go sniffing around for a scoop about a side in league one, even with us being a big club. They report on things but rarely do I remember them uncovering the identity of a potential buyer of a club (and Jones couldn't tell them as he'd be under an NDA). I doubt they'd want any other news group breaking anything first, so if they could I think they'd report something but like I say they're not investigative journalists, certainly not when it comes to their league one coverage. They reported when storey said he wanted to buy us, there's not been much else for them to report on!
ES selling was a ‘major story’. Yes we’ve fallen down the pecking order, but we’re still a ‘big’ story to fill an afternoons repeats.
Story tactics is to try and get the fans to believe his bid is better then Fpp taking shares, that’s why he brings them up alot
Why am I seeing people, just a select few that is, saying its Bernie Ecclestone being one of the backers? Isn't he A at death's door? and B didn't he fail with Flavio Briatore at QPR in ownership there?
"Surely most can see that it’s not happening unfortunately and SD is hanging around for a little longer?" Surely you can see that 'not happening' and 'a little longer' is a total contradiction in terms.
Personally I'd be more confident if the club announced that talks were ongoing with an interested party.
They virtually announced through the fanzines it was done and dusted Thankfully it appears lessons have been learned from that
