He could, but £15m seems a little light on for him. I suspect a package (including add ons) of £20m upwards would probably get it over the line in this environment. Not that far away. If they really want him they could pay it. During his peak last year before COVID it would probably have been double. I've heard rubbish about Cantwell not being suited to Championship footy. He did alright the season before last alongside Stiepermann and Buendia!! About time we sent one back the other way. Howson and Johnson in particular were awesome. We won't talk about Becchio
Strange that there are no rumours involving McLean, given DF's opinion that he was one of the very few of our players to prove himself in the EPL.
Having a dead horse in the starting line up would certainly go some way to accounting for yesterday's performance.
Good roundup of the latest rumours including possible Fulham and Everton interest in Godfrey: https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-transfer-rumours-ben-godfrey-fulham-everton-1-6858557
If we sell Cantwell Godfrey Aarons Lewis Buendia and Pukki then we may as well give up on promotion for a few years and hope for more academy product miracles
I remember Supers used to always go on about the Southampton model where they churn out a never ending supply of young talent, sell them for silly money and reinvest the money into the squad . It's impossible , I remember people saying Man United will just keep producing Beckhams and Giggs type players but if doesn't work like that. We poached a few very talented young players and integrated them into our team in which to build around giving us a young dynamic identity. 3 academy products in the back 4 , Cantwell in midfield Martin pushing for minutes . To cash in and flush all the progress down the toilet for quick cash is not going to cut it. We didn't spend big in the Premier League and we appear to be selling our future legends when the board told us we don't need to sell any of them due to the TV millions we banked. I hope it's just paper talk but lose any more players and it's white flag time.
I think the Lewis deal was a good one with Quintilla settling in nicely, Gibson as an option for cover or possibly with 3 at the back and Placheta as WB. There's also Byram to return later. I'd be more concerned if Max left. Cantwell would also be a loss, but we have a lot of options at his positions now. Godfrey leaving would also be a loss, but if Gibson replaces him as a natural left-sided CB that might work well. It's all about a long-term view if any money coming in is used wisely.
Quintilla is class but he's on loan with a buy option if we go up . The same for Gibson , if we sell all our best talent then we won't go up or afford to sign either of them. Skipp is one of our best performers but he'll be off at the end of the season. The rewards for going up are much bigger than player sales . Can't see Farke wanting to stick around if he's constantly having his best players sold . We'll have to see who's left when the window closes but I fear the worst
I'm not saying I wouldn't be concerned about departures, DD, but the main consideration is what's in the long-term interest of the club. I'm sure that SW knows that "the rewards for going up are much bigger than player sales"and that losing players will affect DF, so any decisions won't be taken lightly.
I'm guessing we'll lose about £20m in revenue if no fans are allowed back for the entire season. That would mean selling a player just to make up for that shortfall. ps. feel free to set me straight on this
Add to that the reduced income last season from reduction in gate receipts and reduced income from TV, the running costs of last and next close season and the possibility of things not even returning to normal next season you can see why financial panic is starting to set in across the lower leagues.
By the sounds of it, if we didn't have a year in the Premier League we would be going into administration now.
There are probably only 6 or 7 who would survive a major loss on gate receipts etc. This may bring on a Euro Super League, with the rest fighting it out in a new league system as per pre Premier League.
Probs why we didn’t spend during the pre-Prem transfer window. The plan was probably take the EPL cash, don’t spend any of it, stay afloat, go again.
